I love how the Lincoln Project forgot that the Soviet Union doesn't exist anymore.

Their anti-Trump ads show hammer and sickle emblems emblazoned on everything and keep making reference to Trump's alliance with the USSR's political leaders. Guy, you're 30 years too late.

Inaccurate, sure, but their stuff was powerful.

What always made me wonder about the LP was their audience, and my guess is most of the audience they were aiming at didn't get hung up on "fine" distinctions like communists, former communists, etc.

@MistyCee Powerfully ignorant, maybe. They released three ads in one week, all of them encouraging Trump to escalate with another nuclear-armed world power. That's a terrible idea. They're basically trying to say that Russiagate is still a thing, when we know it's not. I hate Trump more than anyone but the Russia connection was a farce from day 1.
@BlueMetalChick Encouraging Trump to escalate points out another issue with LP and their audience. They targeted the guy and really aimed at getting under his skin.

Regardless of Russiagate's underlying veracity, it kind of did the same thing, prompting Trump to fire people, etc.
@MistyCee I don’t think the Lincoln Project ads changed the mind of a single person. Their sole purpose was to needle Trump and get him to lash out. I think his handlers figured this out and made sure he didn’t see them.

@MistyCee It makes me wonder if Russiagate was actually true in a sort of backwards way. Like, Trump wasn't working for Putin, but maybe Putin wanted Trump to win the presidency because he knows that Trump is a bloviating idiot and that his actions would divide the country and make America weaker, which would benefit Russia since the two nations are enemies. Kinda like that scene in "The Second Half" when Horace gets the really stupid guy to become CEO at his rival company so he'll make terrible decisions and bankrupt the business.

@LeopoldBloom That's plausible. Kind of a red herring so obvious that most anyone could sniff it out except for Trump since he's such a reactionary.
@BlueMetalChick I've never doubted that Putin wanted Trump over Hillary for just that reason.

It's always seemed clear to me that Trump's divisiveness and incompetence served Putin's interests, even without collusion.
