@Ozuye502 No, there are tons of intelligent conservatives - it’s not so long ago that the conservative movement was dominated by right wing intellectuals, instead of lowest-denominator attuned media personalities.
But then Buckley died and the kooks and bigots he spent years chasing out crawled back in.
I miss actual conservatives. They were educated, sharp, principled, and elitist - but also elite. I didn’t always agree with them but I respected that crowd. Now you just get these mongs that are loud and aggressively stupid, with no depth or intellectual rigor.

@QuixoticSoul The intelligent conservative politician really died before Buckley. GHW Bush might have been the last of the breed. Eisenhower, Nelson Rockefeller, Charles Percy - there was a great tradition of thoughtful conservatism. I blame Reagan for the start of this spiral that has continued to this day.
