Why is it that political questions on SW always lead to arguments ?

Which leads to people blocking other people, some of which were once friends.
What's wrong with a pleasant discussion?

The rise of Trumpism has made politics much more difficult to discuss pleasantly, imo, for a number of different reasons.

For example, if I start to talk about some of the reasons, like the substitution of ad hominem attacks, whatabouts and role of faith over reason, and tribalism,antisocial behavior and respect for others, its likely to insult some folks who identify with or value some or all of these things above other things.

Its not impossible, but it's often hard to do.

@MistyCee you with your petty condescension beg for an angry retort. Trumpism? Please. 8 years of obama had nasty libs at every turn. We were all racist if we dare to disagree with the kenyan. You my dear, incite just as much as any garden variety foul mouthed libtard
@TexChik LOL. See what I mean?

Inciteful or not, your response didn't address my post at all (or maybe not much anyway) and mostly focused on how nasty libs are and how "inciting" I am and how much I resemble my "tribe."

BTW, I'm not denying that my post was "inciting." Its kind of my point. Its really hard to have a pleasant discussion about stuff when we can't, essentially, agree on the rules of "civil" engagement.

On the other hand, its NOT impossible. I put out the bait, and you bit. I know you well enough to know that you probably knew you were biting, and I'd like to think we can "pleasantly", or at least, civilly, even talk about the tactics I employed and your response.

@MistyCee Exactly, it's not impossible.

We should all try harder.
