News reporters/ experts

Why is it when you watch the news that the news reporter or the expert on the subject say "you know" when they give an interview or give a report on their piece of news, its like IF I knew I wouldn't be watching your news report.
BlueVeins · 22-25
largely to recap information without appearing condescending or whatever
milkymum1 · 36-40, F
@BlueVeins True but when its in one sentence it isn't
Frank52 · 70-79, M
It's a 'verbal tick' or 'filler' without any significance. I know lots of people who use it as a way of deciding what to say next. Similar words and phrases: 'like', 'innit' (esp British Asian, but not exclusively), 'know what I'm saying?', 'get me?'

They all annoy me. Know what I'm saying?
milkymum1 · 36-40, F
@Frank52 Yes I do and fair enough in a conversation with people but when your meant to be reporting or an expert then it doesn't come across as professional or that you know what your talking about.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
That's not exactly why you are watching, but it's just a way to make your delicate disposition feel at ease. As you know, it's not something that you need to feel bad about.
milkymum1 · 36-40, F
@MarkPaul Yes maybe but when some say it in the same sentence that isn't
adorbz · 26-30, F
it’d be nice if they didn’t assume knowledge of other recent events like, it’s their job to tell us those
milkymum1 · 36-40, F
@adorbz yes to tell us and report not give their opinions or the News presenter his/her chance to give theirs
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Yeah it's them trying to get you to adopt their view as your own
milkymum1 · 36-40, F
@Picklebobble2 yes or that they aren't sure on what they're saying and want the news presenter to agree with them
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@milkymum1 thereby re enforcing the narrative they put forward

It’s no longer a news report, it’s opinion that they try to sell as news.
