It's Sometimes Difficult to Take Time Off During the Work Week But If You Have Time This Weekend, Bring a Small Flag and Remember...

When I was in high school, two boys asked my best friend what she did during the summer. She and I were in 10th grade and she was the star on our school's softball team and these boys were seniors on the baseball team.

After she mentioned one of the things that she and her sister did was plant flags at a local veteran's cemetery on the 4th of July, one laughed. "Thought you'd be at Wrig, Lib."

She shook her head. The second boy cracked, "Cubs were on the road, that's probably why."

The following week, 9/11 happened.

At the end of the school year, those two boys enlisted in the Army. Thankfully, they came home safely some years later after several tours of duty, including in Iraq.

Others weren't so lucky.

We should remember all those who sacrificed. Not just a couple days a year. But always.
