People talk about abolishing the Electoral College system. If that happened, how many candidates would run in the general election for president? ~

Seven? Eight? If we had a national popular vote system, lots of people could run and a candidate could be elected with 30% or less of the vote. Never mind what the Trump people are screaming about now, imagine the potential for election cheating and fraud in a system like that.

So we let the politicians of New York and California fun the country? Yea that sounds like an absolutely awesome idea. If you’re a moron! There’s a huge reason why states like California New York and New Jersey (just naming a few) and e having mass amounts of people leaving! Get a clue here

@Ozuye502 So why should a person’s vote for President mean more in say, Milwaukee, than it does in Los Angeles? That’s the current system.

Let’s go to one man vote and see who wins.

@Ozuye502 Who, me? Does my post seem like I am advocating this? Read it more carefully, thanks.

@luckranger71 it’s not that your vote counts less actually presidential elections are won and lost in those with smaller number of electoral college votes than those with larger numbers (be California and New York vote blue every election) it would give the larger city politicians more power over the federal system and would lead to a civil war...
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
@Ozuye502 1. That’s not true: the smaller the state, the bigger influence one vote has. Again one person vote. 2. Why would that lead to Civil War?
Ozuye502 · 36-40, M
@RedBaron I’m not saying you are a moron I don’t know you well enough to say that. But I was making a general statement about ending the electoral college. It would basically turn this country into a mix of California and New York City politics which would lead to massive civil unrest.

@Ozuye502 You are completely wrong about all of this lmao.
presidential elections are won and lost in those with smaller number of electoral college votes than those with larger numbers
This is absolutely not true, as is demonstrated every time democrats win Florida and the election is essentially over.

Presidential elections are won and lost in swing states. When big states are swing states, they often can and do dominate elections.

The "omg New York and California" nonsense is such a silly larp.
Ozuye502 · 36-40, M
@QuixoticSoul so I may be over simplifying it but if you look at democracy by the definition it would allow the major population hubs (NYC & LA ect) to be the sole choice of electing presidents if we went by a democratic system (the USA is thankfully a Constitutional Republic)
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Ozuye502 If that statement makes sense in your head, I don't think you know what a constitutional republic is.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@QuixoticSoul The only thing about a Constitutional Republic you know is how to destroy it
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@sunsporter1649
Lmao of course you show up 🤣

Hit the books sporty spice.
