Looking for some of the more aged members of SW to weigh in: Has another president in your lifetime generated so much division or worldwide ridicule?

Obviously we always consider the events of our own lifetimes to be the most important or different than those that came before. Whether you support him or revile him, Trump has been the focal point of a division in his country approaching civil war. Or so it seems.

You older folks who have seen a few presidents come and go, has it ever been like this?

Until Trump was elected, George W. Bush was the president I was most skeptical about. But apart from Trump, most presidents have at least tried to do a good job and improve the lives of the American people. Which is unfortunately not the case with the current president.

But a politician can never do everything right, so he should at least make an effort not to spread more hatred, injustice and separation among the population.
@RobinPhoenix

I think that's worth acknowledging. Of course people from the other side of the bench are always going to be more critical of the president but i cannot think of another president in my own lifetime who has been so transparently self-centered.
@Pikachu You have a point here.

Trump holds not only with his self-centered attitude a sad record, but also in the fact that he spreads lies with full conviction, denounces his opponents and has a shameless and absolutely outmoded sexist and racist attitude towards people. He is rude and always looking for a "deal" that serves his interests, but he doesn't care if this deal is morally acceptable or not.
@RobinPhoenix

This is a man whose campaign tactics involved making up silly nicknames for his opponents and making fun of their spouses. And his base lap it up.
@Pikachu This is sometimes the saddest part of his whole "success". His supporters are blind and deaf to what he does to others and they only look at the benefits he brings them when he is and remains president. He surrounds himself with yes-men. Those who are against him are fired or pressured to resign themselves. So he lives in a self-created, unrealistic vacuum in which he is convinced that everything he says, does and thinks is right.
@RobinPhoenix

He hires only the very best people because he's the best judge of quality...and when they disagree with him then they were always terrible people after all.

Sad indeed.
@Pikachu Yes, and yet so many still want to work with him. Why? How can they support his way of governing and approve his way of treating people who do not suit him?
@RobinPhoenix

Well i think some of them buy into his cult, some of them don't give a shit and the rest get fired lol
@Pikachu LOL haahaaaa....And some just love to have power over others. It's the same evil that has been a problem ever since people started envying and fighting each other for whatever. I wonder when this madness will finally stop.
