Is personal behavior and integrity important in selecting a POTUS? Why or Why Not?

I believe both are important.
@Northwest But look at the Romans. They were never known for their good personal behavior, but made good rulers. 😕

Not that I'm vouching for it...I'm just saying that history shows us that it wasn't necessarily the norm.

@Vivaci Romans' behavior is normal relative to the time period. I would rather stick to the 21st century. Every single population the Romans ruled, revolted against them. They were good rulers from their own perspective, as in they enabled local collaborators, who helped them collect taxes and in return they kept peace.

An example would be how they ruled over what today is Israel and the West Bank. They had local collaborators set up as Kings, who ruled with absolute brutality, but kept people under control.
@Northwest I think politicians have never been as harshly criticized as in the 21st century...esp. those countries that promote freedom of speech. How then can we compare anyone as exemplary, esp. in politics?

@Vivaci Politicians have a reputation of lying, twisting the truth and hypocrisy, all in the name of politics. I believe we can change that.

I have personal friends, who were colleagues in the technology world, who are now in the House and Senate as well as the State level house and senate. They don't need the money and chose to do this out of a true sense of public service. We need more of these people in DC and our state legislature.
@Northwest We certainly do...now, more than ever. They also need to be careful about those corrupt politicians who will go to extreme ends to stay in power, and are willing to even kill to stay up there. I hope the good ones get a chance to work in positions of power...🙏💙

@Northwest May God bless all free nations...esp. America. 💖💙
@Northwest Do you think most people enter politics with a true belief they can help but money and power corrupts?
Northwest · M
@independentone It depends what country it is. In the USA and in the 21st century, I think the newcomers are doing it to serve. Not Trump though. Money and power are tempting but not everyone is corrupted.
@Northwest How about the ones who start out honest enough but seem to not be all that trustworthy after they have served a few terms? To me, it seems the only thing important to many politicians is being reelected and maintaining power.

@independentone We should really consider term limits strongly and political dynasties. Our country was created with a desire to avoid royalty but it creeped in pretty fast.

I believe a 4-term limit for House seats should be implemented and a 2-term limit for the Senate. We may also want to shorten the Senate term to 4 years and also mandate a term limit for Supreme Court appointees, something like 6 years and you're out.
@Northwest I second that...[quote]
