This too shall pass, eventually all great civilizations seem to fail, the Incas, the Aztecs, the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans, Mongols, the Ottoman empire all fell due to their own hubris and inability to stop it or to war, famine, disease or natural disaster. Humankind is an imperfect creature and makes mistakes. It appears to be the natural order of things for this to happen and eventually America too will be replaced by someone bigger or more powerful and the USA will be relegated to the sands of time...

@swirlie If the iceberg were the size of the Continental USA, mountains included? of course it would, the mass of melted ice would probably obliterate most places within 2-3000 feet above sea level. Do you doubt the Global Warming Scientists claims that if the polar ice caps melt, much of the planet will be under water? I'm not a scientist but a real easy way to see proof, fill a glass with warm water till it's almost full, dump 3 or 4 ice cubes in it and see what happens as it melts, better put the glass in a sink!

@swirlie So your point may well be accurate for the ice that is submerged below the water as in an ice cube in a glass, but what of the significant mass of ice that isn't submerged? Which is why my mention of land mass of the USA included the mountains, ie above sea level. So if you were to take a dozen ice cubes stuck together and stacked on top of each other both in the glass and above the water, the submerged volume would be the same but when all the the ice cubes melt, the glass WILL overflow...
