Say a positive thing about the other political side.

I often see too much political division on here. I fear it will lead no where positive. People always seem to hate people with whom they disagree. So I thought maybe we could try and say something genuinely positive / something we respect about the people with whom we disagree.

I'll start - and since I'm not firm on either side of the partylines, I'll for both sides:

I respect that the Democrats were bold enough to bring forward candidates of either gender and of colour. I also respect them for taking upon them the responsibility of leading during the second world war.

I respect the Republicans for many of their candidates, both elected and non-elected. For example Goldwater for being a decent human being to his very core, Reagan for some of the best speeches ever delivered. And the politician I currently often disagree with, I respect Donald Trump for challenging China.

*Please keep it to genuine remarks. If you don't know what that means, please look it up or abstain from answering.

"Witty" remarks about positive things being losing elections or similar will be deleted.

At their best, The Republicans promote a platform of traditional values and grounded thinking, which represents a fair portion of this country's citizens. Their ideals involve smaller government so that a man or woman can create the life he/she chooses on their own merits. This is at their most idealistic.

I used to prefer the Republican party's fiscal conservatism. Unfortunately, that changed and now they care the party is to cut taxes of the wealthy. They are certainly great at staying "on subject." Although i am happy with the results, one can not argue that their goal of backing the judiciary works, and they never waivered in that goal. How that is used we are starting to see.
Hmm. The Republicans seem to have a much clearer understanding of the value of winning and not letting principles, policies, or conventions getting in the way of pursuing that goal.

The Democrats seem late to that party, but nominating Biden and Harris seems to be an indication they're trying to catch on.

@Thorstormbringer You miss the point of the post. Your reply will be deleted. Accusing other sides of one thing or the other is not positive.

I can only talk for british politics 😅 but the british right wing are a lottt better at focussing on one particular thing. While the left get all tangled up a bit in trying to fix all the problems at once.
Even though I wish it wasn’t how it works, picking one line and one main policy and saying it over and over seems like a way more effective way of getting into government

@adorbz That is definitely true. The Labour manifesto was awesome but so long nobody could remember half of it. I joint led a Labour manifesto reading group for Labour activists and still didn't know it that well.

The Tories manifesto was 'Get Brexit Done.'

It was a lie obviously but the point stands about simplicity.

My two best friends are Republicans. Meaning they are two of my favorite peoples.
In my experience, trumpists and Republicans are two different animals.
Lucia · 36-40, T
@Carla I'm unsure if the term "Trumpist" is derogatory. So I'll leave it.
Carla · 61-69, F
@Lucia thank you. For trumpists, trumpism is a compliment.
Lucia · 36-40, T
@Carla Alright I was a bit unfamiliar with the terminology. No one has complained either :-)

Sure. I'm a Democrat. Voted for Hillary. Voting for Biden.

I like Mitt Romney. I really liked John McCain. (Voted for them both)

And I'd have no problem if George W. Bush were president today.

The UK Conservatives are very adaptable, very ruthless, and very effective at communication. They would also never sabotage their own election chances for factional advantage, unlike the Labour establishment.
