To the question of why Trump was absent at John Lewis's services:
"I don't know. I really don't know. I don't know. I don't know John Lewis. He chose not to come to my inauguration. I can't say one way or the other" [whether he thought Lewis was impressive].

"I find a lot of people impressive. I find many people not impressive. He didn't come -- he didn't come to my inauguration. He didn't come to my state of the union speeches. And that's OK. That's his right."

"He should've come. I think he made a big mistake."
Imagine any other person saying that.

Presidential appearances cause major inconveniences for anyone else in attendance. This is one of those "Democrats will damn him if he shows, damn him if he doesn't" deals. The mourners should be grateful that Trump didn't show and subject them to security checks, etc.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@graphite Okay. Is that what we're going with? Because it haven't been a problem for any former head of state or sitting president. The place was wired for safety before Trump even though of attending.
graphite · 61-69, M
@Graylight I can assure you there are inconveniences for anyone in attendance when the sitting President shows up. I've seen two presidents in office and one who was out of office. No comparison as far as the security procedures. Trump shows and it's "That egomaniac showed up here and subjected us to all this security nonsense and traffic jams just to get a plug in for his campaign!" Whatever he did would have been wrong.
@graphite His comments were wrong—he made it about himself and his grievances, as usual. You’re correct that he, personally, wouldn’t have done better. It’s just not who he is.
And if you think it’s a partisan criticism, consider the fact that George W. Bush attended and spoke.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@graphite I see. But attending rallies, golf games, hotel functions and airport tarmac campaign stops are all manageable. Right.
graphite · 61-69, M
@Graylight Trump has played golf twice in the past year, apparently. Always with CNN ready to take a picture of it and try to portray the false narrative that he plays everyday. Obama played golf so much he should have his PGA tour card by now. As far as Trump rallies, there's been one since March. Airport tarmacs - what's he supposed to do? Parachute down to the runway?
Graylight · 51-55, F
@graphite All right, we're done. You're not even in the land of Simple Truth. In fact, I feel like someone should explain how we know the earth is actually round.
monte3 · 70-79, M
Seriously? Google trump v Obama golf. Trump plays about twice s often. Of course I would argue that he is doing less damage than than almost any other time. @graphite
@monte3 Trump disproves the theory that "if you do nothing, you do nothing wrong". Playing golf and doing nothing during a pandemic is wrong.
@graphite It’s already been established that Trump has played almost more golf in four years (282) than Obama did in all eight (333)—even though Trump was the one complaining about it.

@independentone but at least he doesn’t tweet from the golf course. 😊.
@monte3 Of course not, he's too busy cheating at golf to tweet.😊

@bijouxbroussard In addition to frequent golfing, Obama was always showing up on these talk shows to do comedy bits, with these talk show hosts that worshiped him. (No criticism of that to be found anywhere.) I think Trump has played maybe once or twice since this pandemic started. Prior to that, the economy was soaring. Then, he did these briefings everyday for 100 days, only to be viciously attacked at them. "What does the virus mean for your hotels?" Wow, information America really needed to stay safe.
@graphite That’s why Trump is so jealous of Obama, who connected with all kinds of people and still does.
Remember, Trump courted those same talk show hosts before he decided to become champion of the racist alt-right.
@graphite
Then, he did these briefings everyday for 100 days, only to be viciously attacked at them.
Seriously ? Trump repeated several lies and exaggerations. And he wasn’t “viciously attacked”, the lies were questioned and refuted.

@graphite 🤔 CNN ready to take a picture ? The worst of all the FAKE NEWS MEDIA and they're on HIS exclusive mega golf course to take pictures of him ?
🗣️ Hay, someone bring this guy some more Kickapoojoyjuice he's down a quart ! Another Phd from Trump University 🤦‍♂️

@bijouxbroussard NBC News? 😂 https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/media-trump-hatred-coverage/
@graphite Trump will never reach the level of John Lewis' intelligence and character traits as a man and he knows it.
@graphite Yes, I know. Yet somehow they’re the same folks you believed when they reported about Hillary’s emails. Fox and Breitbart are in Trump’s pocket, so they won’t tell you the truth. You should read news sources other than those two. And Trump can’t touch the international press, that’s why he wants to censor it.

@graphite Yeah, they didn’t count on Russian interference. Trump’s probably trying to line them up again.
Remember how many Fox pundits got it wrong about Obama’s second
win ?
Oops, indeed—but it didn’t shake your faith.

@graphite It's so precious you guys keep bringing up the same few polls over and over again and conveniently neglect the fact that Trump's disapproval isn't based on a poll but on 4 years of utter ineptitude.
@graphite You can "Put lipstick on a pig"* but it's still Trump.

* A fruitless attempt to make it look more appealing.
graphite · 61-69, M
@Graylight Dow at record highs, unemployment at record lows until this virus hit the entire planet, jobs coming back to America, unfair trade deals straightened out. So much ineptitude. Meanwhile, what do we see in Democrat-run cities? Utter chaos and destruction, crime soaring, businesses leaving.
@graphite Except that Trump had the benefits of the turnaround in both the unemployment figures and the markets that occurred during the previous administration. It might’ve been a different story if Trump had had to do the heavy lifting in 2009.
Speaking of which, the blue states still pay the federal freight in terms of tax revenue. They also have the majority of large cities, where there tends to be more crime. Red states like Florida and Louisiana are comparable.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@graphite We've been over this. The top 10 rate cities for quality of life are run by Democrats. But don't feel badly - most major cities are run by Democrats, so the chances are high.

The DOW has utterly zero to do with the economy and the rest of your 'information' is preciously incorrect or out of context.
