Defunding the police. Makes any sense to you?

@Invocations That is kind of a myth since most of what police do has very very little to do with dangerous criminals. Also crime has been going down for years yet American police in particular are kitted out like they are policing Mogadishu circa 1992.

@Invocations There might be a reason for that? And clearly more police and more heavily armed police are NOT making any difference there.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow South Africa. Yep I’d say so. Personally being the rape capital of the world I’m glad I can call the cops....maybe they’ll come if they have enough petrol in their vans. If they don’t, I know I could go to a mob coughs I mean a taxi boss and ask for help. Myth or not.

@Invocations In countries where this sort of thing is a problem the police are just another gang or on the payroll of organized crime. There is a reason why the criminals are not getting locked up and it is not a lack of police.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow No, clearly underpaid, understaffed, not properly trained and overwhelmed police are the problem. Amongst other reasons. Now I wonder how it would go if they weren’t around at all.....wait that’s already happening.

@Invocations So you think more cops who are literally paid by the same gangs already is somehow going to solve things?

Generally when something has failed doing more of that failed thing is not going to yield any different results.

Underpaid, and poorly trained police is generally not an accident in cases like this either.

@Invocations Basically what the entire point of the defund the police movement is. Get rid of a system that is completely corrupt and part of the problem and put the money into something that will actually solve problems not line the pockets of crime lords and corrupt politicians.

Take for example the country where I live. Toronto a city with 6.5 million people has a police department of 5000 people. That includes everyone including desk jobs. And I assure you there is no magic that makes Canadians more well behaved then other humans. It is also one of the most culturally diverse cities too.
