Defunding the police. Makes any sense to you?

I do not understand how this will help anything. This just seems so stupid to me

@DukeOfEarle And why is that?
“911 Emergency Response. No officers are available. Please leave your name and address and a social worker will be sent to you in 5 to 10 business days. Thank you.” (click!) @Graylight

@DukeOfEarle No one is saying end services or take officers of the street. It's about how the money is allocated and, believe me, there's not a PD hurting for money.
The New Haven Police Department simply doesn't have enough cops. It's a nationwide problem, as agencies that slowed or froze hiring during the recession are now struggling to build their ranks up again in the middle of a hot job market. Officers are retiring faster than they can be replaced.

New Haven is worse off than others. At last count, the department was 100 officers short.
Part of the problem is money — evident in the department's worn-out squad cars, one of which has a rust hole in the floorboard that has been patched with an old license plate. Suburban police departments can offer better pay and are luring away New Haven's midlevel officers.

The result is a department that's both short-staffed and green.

"I think it should scare the community more than anybody," Bruckhart says. "Because you go to some of these evening shifts and, you know, we have brand-new officers out there who are asking each other what to do on some of these calls. There's no veteran leadership."
The severity of the officer shortage varies from department to department, but the national trend is clear: Since 2013, the total number of working sworn officers has fallen by about 23,000. The number of officers per capita is down even more sharply, from 2.42 per 1,000 residents in 1997 to 2.17 officers per 1,000 in 2016.

@DukeOfEarle Simply not true on the whole. PD's are selective and have their choice of candidates, from returning soldiers to new recruits to support personnel.

I know New Haven well. How much do you know about their budget allocations? Our dept. used to scream poverty, too, all while buying tanks and sending swat guys to competitions. Defunding means reallocating, not taking away. It means targeted strategy and creative solutions.
Yeah OK. It’s simply not true because it doesn’t fit the current narrative of MSM. A few of my family members are cops and all have migrated to smaller communities with township budgets that haven’t been gouged by liberal nonsense. Allocating more money toward “community programs” would be fine if maybe they taught people not to burn, loot or murder. But I guess a program like that would be, oh...too honest? But I am not going around in a million circles with you. Final answer: Defunding police departments is a dumb. I hope yours does. Let’s see how long you remain there. 😂@Graylight

@DukeOfEarle Do you seriously still not know what defunding is?
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@Graylight he doesn’t care.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@JoeyFoxx And thus willful ignorance is born.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@Graylight it’s worse. It’s spreading lies to promote a destructive narrative
@Graylight I don’t give a damn what your liberal bullshit answer is. You haven’t figured that out yet? Wow you are stupid beyond measure. And I am not interested in your lies. Have a nice day. 🙂
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@DukeOfEarle triggered much?
@JoeyFoxx Furthest from it. I have a zero bullshit tolerance policy.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@DukeOfEarle Then how can you stand to look in the mirror?
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@DukeOfEarle if that’s the case, it’s weird that you would support Bunker Boy
That’s the answer of a 6 yr old. This is why no one listens to the ridiculous bullshit purported by you or your ilk. Grow up. And try living in the real world for a while. You might find a lot of your nonsense doesn’t work here. @Graylight

@DukeOfEarle Some female head police chief claimed their funding went to funding public sector jobs so they will have less police to police. She also stated that they really haven't got a plan to replace these services. It's going to turn out like how the mentally ill got to be in prison in the first place. They ended asylums because of public outrage, as they should have but then put nothing back in its place.

They'll mean to replace the police with something sure, but it will be half assed like it always is when they remove things due to pressure with no thought what so ever.

I'm all for defunding police unions but not for defunding police generally. It makes no sense to me.
Unions in general have become a cancer on their constituents. At one time they served a vital service but now it’s just legitimized extortion. Way back in the day I witnessed first hand what became of the mentally ill in NY State when Cuomo senior released them into the streets. It was sad. They were homeless. Many of them died come winter. But Cuomos are just scumbags. Looks like his son is no different. @SatanBurger

@DukeOfEarle Wow I didn't know he did that to sick people, that's terrible and should constitute as murder.

I've worked in places that have unions, they're awful. If you get bullied by a union member, you're gone because they'll stick up for union members first. Which is no surprise, the Teamsters union was linked to the mafia so they go back to mafia days.
It was “no longer in the budget.” NY State like many others were also no longer receiving federal funding as well. But Cuomo decided their lives weren’t worth it. If you’ve seen the movie “Joker,” “Gotham” is a thinly veiled NYC in the early 80’s when the state funding was cut. The current Cuomo in office also gave the elderly the shaft by forcing nursing homes to accept covid-19 positive patients into their facilities by executive order. The death numbers were becoming so high that now when the elderly are hospitalized, they place their death at the hospital so it doesn’t show WHERE they acquired coronavirus. I guess the scumbag doesn’t fall far from the scumbag tree.
And wow, don’t get me started on the Teamsters...my former union rep used to loudly and proudly boast about his blood ties to the Gambino Family. Again, it’s just legitimized extortion. The same unions brought our automotive industry to it’s knees. The parasite finally killed the host. @SatanBurger

@DukeOfEarle Oh yeah I forgot about that, an elderly male was beat by one of the "patients" because of Cuomo's policies. I was so sad when that happened and outraged, there's absolutely no reason that should happen. Elderly abuse is already rife in America, we don't need more but I've also heard several people on this site want to get rid of elderly so maybe it's the same mindset.

I can't believe how much power politicians have, it's like if they said all babies with certain features should be thrown off cliffs, they'd do it. You'd think we'd just say "no, that's not going to work" but apparently it doesn't work like that.

Wow, blood ties to the Gambino family? I wouldn't feel comfortable there, I'd be wondering if I pissed them off accidentally or something, if something would happen. But I'm glad I'm not the only one with experiences in unions, it kind of sucks. I try to avoid places that have them. I think they're a great idea but they should be done differently than they are now. It's like people are untouchable in unions but that leaves everyone else to their mercy.
