Whether if you agree or not black Americans are owed reparations

Black Americans who are descendants are owed reparations not just from slavery but for the following: Jim Crow, redlining, inhumane experiments for war, inhumane experiments that were used to further medical practices, forced sterilization burning down our towns, racist propaganda in school books, the CIA causing the crack epidemic, and lastly giving reparations to former slave masters.

thats stupid... noone is entitled to anythign cause bad things happend to their ancestors
Zenyatta · 26-30
@IlovePeaches Jews are still getting reparations from the holocaust. America has paid reparations to descendants of the Japanese Americans who were put into internment camps and recently gave half of Oklahoma to the Choctaw nation. If you feel that strongly about it then take all those reparations back
IlovePeaches · 22-25, F
@Zenyatta so sweden should pay repairings to england for 3 centuries of pillaging them during the age of vikings ? shouldnt the repairs for slaves better be paid by those people who captured the slaves in the first place ? as in some berber tribes ? how about we make every spanish person pay for centuries of stealing gold and other thigns from south america.... i am sure mongolia has a debt to pay for killing 10% of the world polulation at that time... and omg the romans and carthage...

@IlovePeaches You smooth brains really don’t know how correlation works do you? Everything you brought up are non issues. Non of those countries economically crippled and has already had payed their dues in some form or fashion. There’s a reason why you don’t see these countries actively asking for reparations now do you? Get a better argument🙃
IlovePeaches · 22-25, F
@Zenyatta i dont know the english word for it.. but there is a reason why crimes cant be inherited... the people doing the crime are all dead. making their children pay for it is totally out of the question

@IlovePeaches Jesus you smooth brains really love projecting... I already know where you’re going with this, so I’ll do you a kindness since I can tell you didn’t read the full post or didn’t understand it.

@Zenyatta i do understand.. but i dont agree...
@IlovePeaches In the U.S. there already exists a precedent for reparations. All that’s being asked is that it also be honored for the descendants of African slaves in this country, where slavery should never have been possible. From my perspective, it could even come in the form of educational opportunities, because it was once illegal to educate slaves. Everything that has happened in the recent past, including legal segregation (which existed in my lifetime) and the lynchings (which were a fact of life for my parents’ generation) have had an effect on the racial atmosphere that exists now. People keep speaking of unity in our country, but it’s not going to happen unless past issues are somehow resolved.

@bijouxbroussard well i dont know about american laws... but morally there is zero entitlement for it. so if its the law where you live go ahead... laws doesnt equal morals
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@IlovePeaches the state is a legal body that is responsible for those crimes, hence the state owes reparations for those atrocities. Crimes against humanity have no statute of limitations.
IlovePeaches · 22-25, F
@basilfawlty89 so if the state is responsible it means that every citizen is.. means black people alive now are jsut as responsible...

how about black people thaz moved to the usa after the american civil war...

this makes no sense however you twist it.

if you wanna "make good" about those times... teach the kids properly, let them know what happend... teach them about tulsa and how very common racism was just 50 years ago.

thats the proper way to handle it, not by giving benefits to one part of your people over another because of historical events... thats how y0u create new hatred
@IlovePeaches Institutionalized racism, which was also law here, is immoral. A country that is established in the name of freedom and then participates in the slave trade, as well as breeding human beings like animals—is immoral, especially when it’s based solely upon race. Regulating where people can live, work, attend school, go to the hospital, even whom they can befriend or marry based solely upon their race is immoral. Genocide directly or by experimenting on human beings based upon their race is certainly immoral. Attempting to heal such wounds is the honorable thing to do in a country that, in spite of that past, still believes itself to be honorable.
IlovePeaches · 22-25, F
@bijouxbroussard well of course it is immoral... and if the reparations had been paid to people directly to the peoplesuffering from it we wouldbt have an argument. but making kids pay for the sins of their fathers isnt moral.. and you aren healing anythign but only growing new hatred
@IlovePeaches The hatred already exists, and will continue to, just like the racism and inequality still does. It’s like I said before, this isn’t a new idea, it’s just long overdue.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@IlovePeaches read Hijaba's post, then you might understand where we're coming from.
IlovePeaches · 22-25, F
@bijouxbroussard its almost like hate is a perfectly normal reaction huh...

my opinion on this whole racism bullshit is to distract people from the real problem.

its not about black and white people... it always comes down to rich and poor people... eat the rich and make them pay for better opportunities for everyone no matter the color of their skin. then noone will care about skin color anymore... but its way easier to let poor white and poor black people fight over the crumbs.
@IlovePeaches That’s an easy assumption when you’re not a person of color. Even when you have money you’re often treated differently. It’s not about class, as black people who’ve had the police called on them frivolously can attest.
IlovePeaches · 22-25, F
@bijouxbroussard yeah there is no way you gonna convice me the police treats a rich black person worse then a poor white person...

@IlovePeaches But the police do profile black people (of any income level) and often will take a white person’s word over that of a black witness. I’ve seen that happen.

@IlovePeaches You have common sense which seems to be lacking in many today, especially those who have countered you input.
IlovePeaches · 22-25, F
@bijouxbroussard well statistics are a thing... its not just the police that prfiles you... its everywhere.

and you not just profiled by color of your skin but also by gender, level of education and if you prefer raspberries or strawberries
IlovePeaches · 22-25, F
@acpguy its perfectly fine to have a different opinion oin these matters.. there is no harm in it
acpguy · C
@basilfawlty89 And another idiot comes out of the wood work. I suppose you suffer from dementia like your leader Biden.
@IlovePeaches Profiling by law enforcement can get you killed. Legally, with no recourse by your loved ones.
I don’t expect you to understand what people are saying here. It’s part of the disconnect in the U.S.,too.
Some don’t want to want to listen because it’s incompatible with the way they’ve been taught things should be. And that’s why the protests are occurring again and will likely continue.
IlovePeaches · 22-25, F
@bijouxbroussard the protests are absolutely valid... there is a race problem. but i am saying there is a deeper rooted problem, and the whole BLM is more like trying to fix the symptoms and not the root of the problem. but maybe thats all we can do for now...
