Washington DC is not a state for very good reason. This was to have a neutral ground for our government and so that no state could unduly influence politics. This legislation has come up before mainly because the people within the DC want to be a state and some short sighted politicians only want more votes for their party. It is not likely to go anywhere as it had in the past.
@plaguewatcher Hahahaha, anyone with sense knows a poll this early is absolutely meaningless. Didnt the libs have Hillary up by 30 points about this time 4 years ago. ?
I'd actually like to hear some more debate over this beyond the obvious fact that it would end up being a blue state.
The rubric about needing a capitol not subject to state influence seems rather archaic to me, and thats all I've heard so far.
I'm pretty sure that Republicans won't give in on the issue and that it's precisely why Democrats support it, but what other pluses and minuses are there?
Nope , the libs in the house can approve anything they want and usually do ( no matter how ridiculous) . It’s also unconstitutional . It takes 2/3 votes by the state’s to change the constitution ... not the power cravings of the lunatic libs in the house .
A bad idea to give the people of DC the same thing all Americans are entitled to: representation?

Living in Virginia where the electoral college is already f'd up & set for Democratic wins, it's terrible...Then some want to use the minority card to justify it. Typical bs'rs😏
Wait, this is a thing? Washington DC is part of Delaware!
Edit: I get this shit mixed up all the time. I was typing this out and kept retyping Delaware, then Maryland, before finally just saying 'Fuck it' and leaving it as Delaware. >:(
The original District of Columbia ("DC") was formed on land granted to the federal government by Virginia and Maryland, straddling the Potomac River. The Virginia portion was returned to Virginia and the current District is entirely within Maryland.
of course it is a good idea to give every american representation in congress and the senate. People don't like it because 51 is an odd number. which is silly.
