This is true you know. But her come the "whataboutisms"

Weird, I now have a recollection of a story a friend of mine told me years ago. I had completely forgotten it until now.

My friend was a dark-skinned Italian with dark very curly hair. He wore it short and was frequently mistaken for being black.

He got pulled over twice on a highway (this was back when he was in his twenties) over the course of about a year. It was somewhere down south.

Both times he got pulled over, the cop refused to tell him why he got pulled over and demanded his license and registration. Both times, the cop read the license and as soon as he read my friend's name (ends in "i", obviously Italian), the cop made up some excuse of either changing lanes without a signal or passing on the right. Verbal warnings both times.

As a motorcyclist, you learn pretty quickly to look at the driver, not the car. And yeah, you can quite often identify race and gender of the driver from the back or to the side. I will often wait to overtake until I see them check their mirrors, because it means a much better chance of them knowing I'm there.

I assume cops are only better at that because being observant is a job skill.
