Comparing America to Sweden like comparing an aircraft carrier to a row boat
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@TexChik Well, they have higher wages, higher rates of employment, more social mobility, higher rates of education, they rate better in all areas of healthcare, infrastructure, and scientific research, have lower crime rates, and higher self reported happiness.

We have a bigger military than they do, and a bigger prison population. But that's about it.
TexChik · F
@BlueMetalChick The US has 33 times more population than Sweden , California has 4 x more .sweden isn’t a true socialist economy . Venezuela fills that Bill
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@TexChik Technically true that Sweden isn't a purely socialist country. It's socialistic democracy. But Venezuela isn't a socialist economy either though. Actually, Venezuela is LESS socialistic then Sweden is because the workers and populace own a much smaller portion of the production capacity than the Swedish do. Venezuela is an authoritarian dictatorship with nationalized fossil fuel industries, which is nominally socialistic but that's about it.

@TexChik please listen to the entire video before you comment!

@TexChik that’s true i only called it socialism because the US president calls it that I think!
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Carazaa Well it is based on the principles of socialism. There's different "flavors" of socialism. The "true" forms of socialism are post-capitalist, which means that the workers entirely own the means of production and so even though private businesses and private ownership in general exists, the production capacity is a worker-owned cooperative. Then there's "applied" socialism, which is what Sweden and other Scandinavian countries are. And there's also "utopian" socialism, which would be something like what Korea used to be a few hundred years ago.

@BlueMetalChick oh I see! Chicago is a nice city by the way!
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Carazaa It's definitely an interesting place to live.
Carazaa · F
@TexChik Why do you think that? Have you lived in Sweden?
TexChik · F
@Carazaa nope , but I do have a mind and can think , decipher data and the differences in Types government , GDPs, and politics
Carazaa · F
@TexChik I am not sure you know the difference! I think you might be easily influenced by what you hear then.
TexChik · F
@Carazaa oh I clearly know the difference , it just doesn’t fit your agenda
Carazaa · F
@TexChik
Well many Americans think they know but they really don’t because if you haven’t lived in a place for a few years then you simply don’t know! This is an American tendency! You are not alone in that!
TexChik · F
@Carazaa hahaha are you a brit ? Sorry but Sweden is not a socialist country or economy . And thinking their tiny little country compares directly with the US and that we could just copy and paste their firm of government here and it be successful is ridiculous beyond imagination .
Carazaa · F
@TexChik So let me tell you some differences of Sweden and the USA
1. The average Swede is wealthier than the average American, and have higher standard of living!
2. All Swedes get at least 5 weeks vacation every summer and also time off a few weeks at Christmas
3. There are no homeless in Sweden
4. All children in Sweden get monies for food clothing and childcare regardless of the parents income.
5. Swedes are better educated,on test scores! In the USA the average person is less knowledgeable..
6. Crime is much less in Sweden
7. People are much healthier in Sweden ( the baby birth mortality rate is higher( more babies survive in Sweden) the mortality rate in the USA is like I developed countries India or poor African countries! And they live much longer in Sweden than in the USA.
8. The food is much healthier in Sweden than the USA because many of the additives are outlawed there!
9. Less diseases and cancer in Sweden
10. The average Swede doesn’t drive anywhere even though they have a car they walk so they are thinner
11. Colleges are free
12. An operation is $20 for everyone
13. The towns in Sweden have beautiful downtowns with cafes and parks where people walk around not poverty and homeless where kids can’t walk because they step on needles and it’s run down with poverty!
14. Swedes really care about people, animals, and nature! Surveys have shown that Americans are less concerned and caring!

Just some differences! The USA has to clean up their cities, healthcare, education, homelessness, drug use, and poverty!!! It has huge problems!

@TexChik It's not a purely socialist country, no, but it is a socialistic country. Sweden uses something called "applied socialism" which is also sometimes referred to as "hybrid economy."

And while the principles of Swedish government and economy couldn't just be lifted and put right into the United States on account of the size and population difference, there's a lot of it which could be used, and quite effectively. Direct ballot initiatives are a great example, as is nationalized healthcare and a ban on "bundling" campaigns.
