None of those countries reject immigration
None of those countries are closely aligned with the Israli or Saudi governments
All of those countries have reasonable restrictions on possession of firearms
None of those countries jail people based on their ethnic background

Though, I'm sure the list is longer....

@JoeyFoxx If none of them reject immigration, then pray tell me why everyone wants to come to America?
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Silverwings Not everyone does so specifically, for many US is the closest accessible first world country.

Switzerland, for example, is one quarter immigrant - people do move there.

@QuixoticSoul I think that the lists of people who want to come here always are very very long. That is what I hear from others who do want to come here, and I think that any immigration is now on hold due to Covid.

@Silverwings The lists of people who want to come to developed countries are all very long.

People aren’t that picky, they go where they can. Any first world nation is a massive upgrade from where they’re coming from - and most have better services than we do too.

But for a large chunk of the planet, the closest developed nation is us. You can’t walk from Guatemala to Switzerland.

People do not all want to come to America! I didn’t! I had to come with my parents who the American government asked my Dad to come because Sweden was more advanced in their medical research in his field at the time! My parents returned to Sweden and they did not want to stay here! I lam content with my life and have a family and kids but I think there needs to be major changes in people attitudes pertaining to inequality, corrupt big monopolies, and more support for ALL Americans with healthcare and colleges and drug counseling and homes, not just shelters for poor people! I want more government involvement but most want less!

@Carazaa How do you propose to pay for all those changes? We are already in debt up to our eyeballs! More taxes?
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Silverwings How does everyone else do it?
Silverwings · 61-69, F
@Carazaa I thought you just moved here in the last few years?
Silverwings · 61-69, F
@QuixoticSoul MORE TAXES ?
Silverwings · 61-69, F
@QuixoticSoul Better services? ?

The same politicians that say they don’t want to help the people because it means raising taxes are all making over $200,000 a year!! They can afford that?! when the average American makes about $50,000!???
The politicians can afford all the programs to help you have been lied to!
The taxes from all the millionaires estates are all 10,000 a month in taxes! Where is it going? I tell you, to their own salaries and military bombs! It’s sick!
The governmental salaries in the top 10 countries is the SAME or lower than the average in the top 10 countries!

@Silverwings In Australia we do pay a little more tax than you do in the USA. But I pay about $1200/year for full private health cover. I think my cousin in the USA pays that per month. Overall, we're higher on the human development index than the USA, so we're doing ok. We're not socialist. If you can't afford private in Australia - maybe a single mum with 2 kids and no job right now - they can get treatment for nothing. Doctor, hospitals. The waiting lists are not long - despite what Fox News in the USA keeps saying (to support their advertisers who make profits from people's health.) The American health system is very good, but not everyone can access it - it's the most expensive in the world. In terms of public health, many people are not being cared for. No child deserves inferior health care.

How do you pay for this stuff? Think about the mega-wealthy corporations and individuals in the USA who don't pay tax. The problem is the hard-working middle class people are carrying the country.
