It nowt to do with politics that those paid to understand diseases and treatment tell us not to try it.
Hydroxichloroquine is used for treating malaria, lupus, porphyria and one or two other diseases, but has [i]not[/i] been tested and cleared properly for treating Corvid-19; and is a very powerful so dangerous drug if not used under proper medical supervision.

@sunsporter1649 I am aware that it is is being tried and seems hopeful, though of course we don't know how many of those patients would have recovered anyway.
However, those cases are under close control and using the drug for Corvid-19 is still very experimental, partly because the disease itself is still not fully understood.
It still seems a gamble, and we can only hope that it will in the end pay off.

@ArishMell Looks like it might not be the silver bullet they hoped for. Reports that it increases risk of in-hospital deaths in the Lancet.
