What words just can’t come out of a politician’s mouth?

Eg. “I’m sorry, we got that wrong”
SweetMae · 70-79, F
I was wrong. I am sorry.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@Valentine 😳 Which painting??
Valentine · M
@SweetMae I will PM you.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@Valentine Okay
VeronicaPrincess · 61-69
If a politician said that, people would just assume it's a lie. 🤨
VeronicaPrincess · 61-69
@Valentine They've made cynicism too easy - no pills needed.
Valentine · M
@VeronicaPrincess D'oh, and I've been taking them for all this time, and I didn't need to. I'm obviously well and truly hooked 🤦‍♀️

assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@waleskinder oh hell no. I lie a lot and I wouldn't ever say that either.

@waleskinder 😂 Definitely we'll never hear that!

It happens sometimes, but may well be an attribute of a more honest and rational age, one that has sadly passed.
President Obama said Thursday that he is "sorry" that some Americans are losing their current health insurance plans as a result of the Affordable Care Act, despite his promise that no one would have to give up a health plan they liked.

"I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me," he told NBC News in an exclusive interview at the White House.

"We've got to work hard to make sure that they know we hear them and we are going to do everything we can to deal with folks who find themselves in a tough position as a consequence of this."
Reminder, 98% kept their doctor. Some would have proclaimed this a victory.

@QuixoticSoul I am not from the USA, and my knowledge is therefore sometimes limited to what the BBC and others might think I need to know. I also pick up useful snippets from the likes of SW and EP before. One key thing I’ve picked up is that many in the US are, please excuse me, tribal about their own party. The pendulum therefore swings violently to and fro. Seldom do I hear a middle truth? Perhaps I miss things.

However, I do know that Obama tried to bring in social health system, and if memory serves, it was voted down in the Rep held senate. In my, possibly ignorant eyes, Obama therefore saw the need for social health system, perhaps free at the point of delivery, similar to my own UK system (which is now flawed, I admit), and tried. Failed, but tried. Again, if memory serves, the incoming Rep POTUS shredded everything Obama tried to set up.

Is this why Obama is ‘sorry’, that the incumbent POTUS has undermined his efforts, and in doing so, he is trying to stir anti-rep feeling to stir his Dem voters into action and voice.

If I have this wrong, I humbly listen.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Valentine No, not quite - Obamacare passed in the senate, and republicans have not been able to remove it.

At issue here is that the bill introduced certain requirements that insurers have to follow - minimum standard of services, removing individual spending maximums, not discriminating against preexisting conditions, etc. Some people (about 2%, mostly self-insured) had such barebones policies that insurers found it impossible to continue service at those price levels, and had to cancel their plans, forcing them to sign up for more comprehensive and expensive packages - something Obama said would not happen.

@QuixoticSoul thank you. But this watering down (commercial pressures and lack of political resistance?) happened after his watch?
To be fair, if either side admits some form of error it becomes fodder from their opponents. And so on and so on...

@DukeOfEarle yes what you say is very true but how can then the people of the country trust them as a government and a word they say if they lie about one thing what else can and have we been told lies about before
I will not presume to know what goes through the minds of “the people” that you speak of. I would hazard a guess that they know that all politicians lie but choose which politician to back based on other criteria. @smiler2012

"I don't know but I'll find out the answer and get back to you." 😂
Valentine · M
@SW-User He is my subcontractor - I need to have peeps informed. Sorry, that sounds aggressive perhaps. I need to calm. 😳
SW-User
@Valentine Nah, you don't sound aggressive. You sound like someone who has a job to do and doesn't have time for b.s. I do the same thing.
Valentine · M
@SW-User I don’t like being unnecessarily aggressive. I find knives to slip in and ways to twist in different ways. Heavens, just listen to me, and I claim not to be aggressive!! 🤦‍♀️
SW-User
That pretty much all they do is mostly for growth of their political power of their party within the government.
Valentine · M
@SW-User Really?

😉
smiler2012 · 56-60
valentine at times the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth
Valentine · M
@smiler2012 when was this exactly? must have been in the SW saloon, sampling the beers.... 🥴
smiler2012 · 56-60
@Valentine think hell would freeze first as some politician are devoid of that word it does not come in there vocabulary and would not know truth if it bit them on the arse 😁
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
