No doubt the country could open up tomorrow, all the President has to do is announce that the country is shut down indefinitely, see how fast the goddamndemocrats return to Washington and begin to pass bills opening up the country.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@sunsporter1649 Yup - just like when he said he had all the authority - it was right out of Tom Sawyer! Everyone jumped in and insisted the governors should handle it.
And, of course that was the plan all along IMO.
Trump just knew that it had to be their idea!

@Budwick You know I love you man... but when you support the dumbassery of @sunsporter1649 , you make it difficult.

What Trump did wasn't some reverse psychology trick. He's too fucking dumb for that. What he said was laughingly inaccurate and any Republican with a functioning brain stated pretty openly that the President was incorrect.

I'm becoming increasingly annoyed with Inslee at the moment, not because he's a Democrat, but because he's not allowing the businesses in Washington who helped flatten the curve the opportunity to responsibly turn the economy back on.

What's happening where you live?
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@JoeyFoxx Nah, Trump loves publicly backing down after everyone tells him to stand in the corner. Lives for it.
JoeyFoxx · 56-60, M
@QuixoticSoul Wait... so, he's really our little bitch?

Wait - are you dissing my friend Sunsport?

He's too fucking dumb for that

Wait, are dissing the president too?

Don't spend too much energy on your 'love' for me Joey.

I'm into people I can count on to do and say the right things.
You tend to run very hot and cold.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@JoeyFoxx Actually, the President of the United States does have total authority over interstate and intrastate commerce, granted by the Commerce act of 1938, and affirmed by the Supreme Court in 1942.
JoeyFoxx · 56-60, M
@sunsporter1649 you’re pulling facts straight from your ass I see.

Thank goodness for the First Amendment

@strongbow Thanks. Works every time, is a reflex action on the part of the goddamndemocrats, kinda like when the doctor taps below your knee with that little hammer
JoeyFoxx · 56-60, M
@sunsporter1649 red herring
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@JoeyFoxx Embarrassed finding out facts, eh?
JoeyFoxx · 56-60, M
@sunsporter1649 no jackass. That case is a red herring. That isn’t some obscure case.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@JoeyFoxx Its the Supreme Court ruling that affirmed the Presidents control of intrastate and interstate commerce, if and when he determines his intervention is in the best interests of the country
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@sunsporter1649 Among the many issues with your bizarre little thesis, Wickard v. Filburn expanded congressional oversight, you incredible moron.

And it still doesn't provide for the sort of powers Trump is claiming.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@QuixoticSoul And just who controls the Department of Commerce?
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@sunsporter1649 It wasn't the department of commerce that fined Wickard.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@QuixoticSoul Which only affirmed the Presidents power over interstate and intrastate commerce
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@sunsporter1649 Lol no. That case affirmed the power of congress. That dude was not following federal law.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@QuixoticSoul And who is in charge of the Department of Commerce?
JoeyFoxx · 56-60, M
@sunsporter1649 and who is helping you put on your adult diaper tomorrow?
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@sunsporter1649 I’m starting to get the idea that you have no idea what that department does 🤷‍♂️
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@QuixoticSoul I'm getting the idea you have been hiding out under your porch to long. When you figure out what "commerce" means, let us know
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@sunsporter1649 I know what it means, I know what the department of commerce really does, and I know what Wickard v. Filburn actually did. All of these appear to elude you. Probably because you're fucking stupid.

I'll give you a hint, Dept of Commerce regulates aspects of international commerce, because the regulation of interstate and intrastate commerce lies with _________ as expressed in Article I, Section 8 of the US constitution.

It's kind of a hodgepodge department of various agencies, and doesn't have much of an enforcement power anyhow.

And it especially doesn't do what you think it can do when it comes to forcing states to lift their lockdown orders. Holy shit sporty, grow a brain already.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@QuixoticSoul The Supreme Court interpreted the Constitution's Commerce Clause, in Article I, Section 8, of the Constitution, which permits the US Congress "to regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes." The Court decided that Filburn's wheat-growing activities reduced the amount of wheat he would buy for animal feed on the open market, which is traded nationally, is thus interstate, and is therefore within the scope of the Commerce Clause. Although Filburn's relatively small amount of production of more wheat than he was allotted would not affect interstate commerce itself, the cumulative actions of thousands of other farmers like Filburn would become substantial. Therefore the Court decided that the federal government could regulate Filburn's production.
