@mysteryespresso It actually refers to using technology to reduce cognitive demands. So anything that you don't have to think for yourself is offloading. Like using calculators instead of figuring in your head. Using cell phones so you don't have to remember phone numbers. Googling everything.
But you can also extend that concept to literally having someone else think for you and tell you what to believe. It is thus less demanding on your own brain. Basically you no longer think for yourself but rely on the brains of others.
