I'm not on any political side. Prison sentences for many are rediculous. It doesn't let people out, it shortens their terms in certain cases. Most women in prison are there because of a man. We are paying for people who are harming themselves. It makes no sense to give people with minor, first time, drug offences 20 years just because their charge was made federal for crossing state lines. You can't treat all people the same or make it about money for private prisons. I'm not talking about what Trump does. Making the prison issue a political one is sad.

@MySecretIdentity1 Unfortunately, it is both a political and economical issue, because generally speaking, people with money can buy lighter sentences and often, freedom. [b]Bail[/b] is the clearest example of that. After arrest, money makes the difference whether or not one gets to continue with their lives vs. languishing in prison [b]until[/b] they’re even tried.

@bijouxbroussard I think things need to move to an ankle monitor for non-violent first time offenders. There are programs where the monitor gets transferred to your place of employment and then you come home.
