IS Trump a Republican?

Do you feel that trump really cares for and embodies the values of the republican party or are they just the vehicle for his self-aggrandizement?
BlueVeins · 22-25
I don't believe he even has a political ideology that he genuinely believes in, but he plays the part pretty well. He's pretty liberal on trade and farm subsidies though, and his foreign policy is all about feeding his own image.
@BlueVeins

A very accurate description, i think.

He cares only about what best benefits him.

Trump was a Democrat. He invited the Clintons to his wedding and they attended. He was pro-impeachment.

When Trump saw the Republican Party has his path to glory and personal enrichment, that suddenly changed.
@Graylight His payback for being elected as a Republican was a 25% tax cut to the wealthy and himself. "It's the way it is, get over it"

I think that's the long and the short of it.

Things he said in the past seem to indicate he must have chosen that party because it would work for him, rather than he was always a republican by loyalty.

The world isn't just divided into left/right. To someone like Trump (and the big people who supported him getting into power) that's just a wonderful and simplistic distraction, and a tool for manipulation. Many of them can and do work with either side, as long as their interests are taken care of.

@Pikachu Yep. He sure did🤷‍♂️
@room101

Nah, looks like it's not true. At least according to snopes.
room101 · 51-55, M
@Pikachu 🤷‍♂️
Personally, as an Independent, I don't care which party he belongs to. I only care about actions and policies not hype and propaganda (and that goes for either side).
SW-User
he values himself rather than his party.
@SW-User

No question about that.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
His Values are indeed NOT mainstream Republican values.
SW-User
He's not like any republican I'd ever known in the past, but then again neither are today's republicans.
@SW-User true, but neither are the Democrats. My mom has been a Den since she voted for Kennedy and the party no long supports anything she has always believed in.
Republicans are his main marks, which he values. Their values are just a means to his ends.
@MistyCee

Well said
purplepen · 51-55, F
He's a businessman.
@purplepen

I think first and foremost he is a narcissist.
And then a businessman.
And then a politician.
And then a republican.

I don't think he particularly cares what gives him power and attention as long as he gets it.
purplepen · 51-55, F
@Pikachu LOL - maybe. I wouldn't want to work for him because his favorite line in The Apprentice - 'You're fired!'
@purplepen

Lol hell no!

He's a garbage person and i pity anyone who is directly involved with him.
Yeah no he’s not a republican. He just parrots the talks points. If he gets re-elected we will then see his true colors
@Quoththeraven

I feel like we've already seen his true colours
I get a feeling we ain’t seen nothing yet. @Pikachu
IndridCold · 46-50, M
It's obvious that the Republican Party now cares for and embodies the values of Trump.
@IndridCold

Or at least that they care more about a republican led america than the actual values they believe in.
IndridCold · 46-50, M
@Pikachu The old guard Republicans have either died off or sold out. Republicans stood by and let that draft-dodging silver-spoon fed POS Trump insult veteran, POW, and war hero John McCain without saying a word.

Republicans believe in Trump now. It's Trump before honor.
@IndridCold

Sure seems that way.
SW-User
To any rational individual, the answer is obvious.
@SW-User

Agreed
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@SW-User Agreed.
Yes and yes. The two are not mutually exclusive.
Human1000 · M
He remade an entire political party into his own fascist image.
@Human1000

And they're just falling in line with this demagogue because he's calling himself a republican.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
No. He's a moron 🙂
@Zonuss

Absolutely.
