Welcome to Election night. A little over 2 hours until the polling stations close and the race begins.
This will be an election night chat thread. Anyone in the UK , regardless of your political persuasion , is welcome to join in. The only rule is that everyone is polite to each other. People may disagree but anyone resorting to trolling , name calling or being abusive will be asked to refrain , leave the thread or even be blocked.
So , inspired by @ArtieKat , have you got your election night drink and nibbles. I've got mine

The very fabric of democracy is on trial in this election. For example, Parliament originally voted to respect the referendum, then many MPs dismissed the result as "populism". In Scotland they all promised to respect the independence referendum but, when the result didn't go their way, the nationalists chose to disregard it. Will the British public now stand up and demand that the democratic majority view be upheld?

@Regfries this is all very true. A Tory victory could leave Nicola Sturgeon with a headache. Brexit on Jan 31 and no 2nd independence referendum
@Regfries Not saying it wouldn't be ridiculous but they could have pushed for a Unilateral Declaration of Independence. Having another vote is giving the people another say not ignoring them.

@thatscottishguy I'm not a fan of Nicola but in the leaders televised debates she was the best speaker and performer
@Regfries Well it would be difficult to give a valid reason for it after that. Like I said though. They did take notice of the result because we are still in the UK.
@SW-User Yeah seen a lot of that after debates this year and two years ago. She's good but tbf it's not that hard to look better than the other leaders.
@Regfries Well I believe she should always argue for it. Hard to say we need another one anytime soon if we lose again but you don't just stop arguing for what you believe in when you lose in a democracy. Otherwise why do we have elections every 5 years or less?
@thatscottishguy I believe you and I are finally finding common ground. I believe there is more of that out there than people think. The SNP could be a voice for reason here in England if we get saddled with a Momentum inspired hung parliament.
@fairefoutre so scotland will have no security measures, even scottish have said oil reserves wont last for ever and your own health service , and you still have to give fishing rights away in eu
@fairefoutre Do you realise what you're saying? Trump is already threatening NATO for countries not contributing their share. Cancelling Trident and kicking the Royal Navy out of Scotland will open a lot of doors to a certain enemy. And a lovely wealthy country such as you describe would make a tasty snack for a hungry bear..
@SW-User According to the BBC Nicola Sturgeon is the highest paid UK politician - getting far more than a mere MP in Westminster, more than the PM in fact!
@Regfries Yeah they made it higher a while back. I can't remember why but it was something to do with pissing the the PM off. Anyway she's been pretty open about most of it going into Scottish charities.
