Do you have someone on the opposite side of the political divide whom you honestly like?

I mean, someone whose politics are the ONLY thing you don’t like about them.

I have a few, some in my own family.

I’m often tempted to say, “Let’s not talk about politics. I want to keep on liking you.” Or maybe, “I love you, but you’re wrong about everything.”

Yes, my dad. I love him, but November 2016 caused a rift between us.

@ChampagneOnIce heard a lot of this lately

@Just4fun We’ve agreed not to discuss politics which makes me sad. We used to be able to debate with each other, but this is different.

@ChampagneOnIce one side in particular seems incapable of having any discussion of ideas. Your either on the wagon or off

@ChampagneOnIce This would be me with my dad and my brother. My dad is actually more reasonable than my brother. That's scary.

I read a fiction book where there was this woman in WW2 Germany who did not agree with the Nazi bullshit, but her brother did. I can’t help seeing the parallels.

@Just4fun And they get so angry so quickly, what is that?
Just4fun · 51-55, M
@CoffeeFirst that the part I don’t understand either. I think it’s because trump has masterfully got them at an emotional level.

@Just4fun I think you are right. Has happened with total strangers to us--they escalate for no reason and they are the ones who brought it up.
