Sure, but we never engage in personal attacks or name calling. Challenge the policies, cite the facts, debate the priorities but never disrespect each other.

The humurous part of our differences is that the conservatives agree that Trump is an asshole.

Yes, there are a few. We mostly don't talk about politics, though. And it's really not necessary as we have plenty of things in common that we can talk about.

Yes a few. I have a couple of kind if friends who are really right wing and we talk politics. We give each other shit but it's friendly banter and there is mutual respect. They are wrong about everything but it's not their fault. 😜

The one friendship I ever lost to politics was with a centrist. He criticised me relentlessly on social media for my views but when I returned the favour he demanded an apology which I did not give and then blocked me. I don't miss him Tbf.

I can respect any informed opinion that isn't hateful. There are plenty of really smart people out there with whom I disagree.

Once someone gets aggressive or unreasonable, I avoid the topic forevermore.

Amazing that regardless of political leanings, whether left or right, we all pretty much share the same conclusion. We want a safe world with less bloodshed and suffering and more joy and happiness, a world where everyone has a chance to succeed, to get medical help, to have money and freedom, and food to eat, and dignity .... but where we differ is on the "how to" part.

We have good friends who once though John Edwards was a man destined to save America from itself, and his devotion to Elizabeth was living proof of his goodness. I thought he was a jackass and a fraud.

When Edwards finally outed himself to the overwhelming majority that he was indeed a fraud and a jackass, I took the high ground and refrained from ever mentioning the name, John Edwards, to my friends again :)

there is no area of my life i need all of my friends to agree with that is why i have several friends some i can discuss politics with some i don't a friendship is not that strong if any one issue can end it

Yes, there are some people even in this current political divide that I can honestly say I like. Not always because that is the [i]only[/i] thing I don't like about them, but because there more things about them that I DO like.

I have lots. Since I live in a part of London that is populated almost entirely by right-on leftists, I would have few friends if I didn’t!

Hard to say, since I have mostly moderate political beliefs. Among the people I know who pay attention to politics, most are big supporters of either Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump, depending on the person. I don't know many people who like Hillary Clinton or any of the other Republicans who ran for president against Trump in 2016.
