Free Speech vs. Racism? I am questioning the motivations of Binghamton College Protesters.

An economist, Art Laffer, was scheduled to speak at Binghamton regarding marginal tax rates, and was drowned out by protesters who refused to allow him to speak. He was then supported by the Young College Republicans group who had invited him, and they in turn began to shout, "Free Speech! Free Speech!"

Binghamton College is no longer a safe venue for free speech.

[i]The low point of the protest, IMO, occurred later, outside. An Asian American woman, with red streaks in her hair, began to scream imprecations at one of the young men who was supporting free speech. The young man responded, by saying, "How can you say that about me? You don't even know me!"

And the young Asian American woman screamed hysterically, "YOU'RE WHITE!!!!!"

I was pretty shocked by that. Race hatred being flung about on a college campus shows that we are not too far from the bad old days, where racism was the rule of the day. Only now, it seems that for a few very crazy people, it is the white race which is to be hated and targeted, marginalized, drowned out, verbally abused, harassed, and subjected to massive generalizations about their thoughts and feelings.

[b]College students, who are supposed to be intelligent, and at least somewhat educated, need to know that race is NOT a factor in determining inherent goodness, inherent evil, or the thoughts and feelings going on in someone else's head.[/b] IMO.

Some political groups see racism in everything. It is used to stifle an opinion even if there are no racial connections. I am fiscally conservative and more liberal on other social issues. I recently took some courses at the local college and was astounded that most classes had some kind of liberal bent even if the subject was not political. It has not been a secret that most colleges are left leaning, but the degree surprised me, and the easy way to get a good grade was to give a nod to all the liberal talking points in papers. Accepting the left ideology was a sure way to get a decent grade. If you tried to argue a point the professor would spout leftist BS until you were tired of arguing and never address the real question. If we can't discuss a problem, we are on the way to becoming a more fractured society. If we can't have different beliefs about the best way to solve a problem, we are going backwards. The protestors just wanted to protest because a different organization "your republicans", who they disagree with, sponsored the event so they protested it. "It must be racist because I disagree with the group that started it." It is a sad state of affairs.

@Roadsterrider Agree completely. Very, very sad, and very stupid on the part of the professors who try to teach this world view. Evil is evil, and promoting hatred of one race will always be evil.

I heard a black man, recently, (wish I could remember his name), who went to Washington DC to promote black conservative thought, and he said he was astonished that so very MANY members of Congress are completely unaware of this problem in our universities. They seemed to be wrapped in the cotton wool of their own Washington political lives, and don't seem to understand that our colleges are undermining our youth, and our future.

@4meAndyou Our politicians are so far detached from every day life in this country, I am surprised they haven't come up with their own language by now. Something like 70% of the house and senate are millionaires, they make $150K a year, they wouldn't have accumulated that wealth saving every dime of their salaries for the 30-40 years some of them have been there. I am not surprised they don't see real problems in our society, they have set themselves up in a position to sell out their voters. I don't think there is much of a difference in either party because they meet in the middle instead of deciding on right and wrong. It is time to throw the bums out and start over. I didn't finish my degree, I maintained a 3.5 GPA but it was just too much to keep doing. I did enjoy a year and a half of ruffled feathers though.

@Roadsterrider I attended an Art College. We were so liberal we weren't allowed to have grades...even back then...😂 We had Pass, Fail, and Honors, which was like an A+...and I only got Honors in my Color class...😂

I agree that we should throw ALL of them out, in Congress, and create some better requirements for serving in the House and the Senate.

For example, if you think anything going on in the impeachment hearings right now is 100% factual, you really should be disqualified from serving...sort of like folks who are impaired.
