Impeachment madness

President Trump is not likely to be removed from office through impeachment process. Even if every Democratic member voted for removal in a Senate trial, 20 Republican senators would have to turn on Trump to banish him from office. That outcome looks exceedingly unlikely today.

The more conceivable circumstances for Trump’s departure would be either 1) resignation, or 2) failure to win reelection. Trump shows no sign of resigning (it is not in his character to bail), so next year’s election looms as the epitome of all enormous boulders the Democrats have yet to successfully push uphill. Much less replace him with a more pliable Commander in Chief.

So, the likelihood is that Trump will probably be reelected for a second term and Congress would have nowhere to go in the event of another scandal. Not because the House couldn’t impeach him again, but because it would be politically impossible to do so as there would be no political will to endure another losing battle. In which case the Democratic party would suffer long-term damage and factional infighting resulting in fracture as a viable political entity into two or more weakened segments.

Like two quarreling brothers struggling for dominance within the family, sometimes you just gotta let warring parties duke it out and wrestle with their differences once and for all and let the chips fall where they may.
