Americans, how does it feel to be number one?

If it doesn't feel good in this case please vote for Bernie Sanders in the Democratic Primary, the only candidate who will do everything in his power to make sure you get Medicare For All and don't have to worry about going bankrupt if you or a family member suffers a health crisis.

If you are not sure if your disposable income will go up or down under Bernie's plans you can check with this link:

Already donated like 4 times to my man Bernie. Aint gonna let him down 😠

@SW-User thank you for your help :)

I totally agree the USA can easily have it cheaper than we have it with Universal Healthcare. But the most sad is that Americans can't afford to get sick. It is a broken system now because it ruins us financially! It is much better under obama care but it needs to be free like in all other counties. My Dad a doctor said that the American Medical Association cared about their own money more than patients and they lobby against Universal healthcare. He never joined AMA for that reason. God bless my Dad he loved his patients so much and was so disgusted about the greed of doctors and some people.
Graylight · 51-55, F
I believe Bernie Sanders, for better or worse, is not going to get the Democratic nomination. I would only ask that you be ready to back whoever gets the bid. Solidarity is the only way this election will be won.
Saxo2000 · 41-45, M
@RogueLoner yes I'm in the cult of people who have no interest in corrupt politicians who are in the pocket of large corporations and special interests, it's a growing cult that meant close to half the population didn't vote for the two awful candidates in the latest general election.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Saxo2000 You can always come over to the Democrats' side.
Saxo2000 · 41-45, M
@Graylight Bernie is the closest thing to a democrat in the original sense of the word in my opinion, for the future I think Yang and Tulsi are also promising candidates.
Budwick · 70-79, M
If you think Bernie can do something about that - you are a fool.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Saxo2000 No Suxo - my argument is that socialism has never worked and with Bernie at the helm it will not work on steroids.

Thanks so much for your irrelevant input.
Saxo2000 · 41-45, M
@Budwick you seem really smart, did you attend Trump University by any chance?
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Saxo2000
you seem really smart
You are fairly perceptive ,... for a lib.
Northwest · M
I believe the focus should be on voting Trump out of office. Every Democrat, in the running, has a variation on healthcare, that takes us in the right direction.
Saxo2000 · 41-45, M
@Northwest Just to add to my point about how misleading primary polls generally are, a breakdown of the latest Emerson national poll (the one from my latest screenshot) of landlines vs cell phones, get ready to back Bernie2020 in the general election even if you have to drag your feet.
Northwest · M
@Saxo2000 Perhaps you should read the NYT article I posted a link to.

A condensed summary of what you wrote here, so far:

1. You are similar to a Trump voter, as in if the polls do not agree with you, they are fake news.

2 You are similar to a Trump voter, as in the same post, you introduce your own "selected" poll, and say "but mine is OK".

3. You are similar to a Trump voter, as in you say "let's vote for the winner of the primaries, but if Bernie did not win, then I am not voting for the winner"

Crystal clear.

@Northwest
I believe the focus should be on voting Trump out of office. Every Democrat, in the running, has a variation on healthcare, that takes us in the right direction.

Isn't that what they tried with Kerry? To take the candidate that everyone and no one likes just to get George out of office?

I think it's better to have a strong story, with clear ideas who comes over as authentic to the population. Then to take someone who is just there to be against the other guy.
sunrisehawk · 61-69, M
LMBO....

First. I don't think the goal is to have cost based health care like the socialistic style, it is to have a patient based system.

Second. Define treatable...

Third. What if we want better care than the VA and Medicare on average?
Saxo2000 · 41-45, M
@sunrisehawk it's a little morbid that you find the fact that people are dying of treatable disease and going bankrupt amusing but whatever floats your boat.
sunrisehawk · 61-69, M
@Saxo2000 The typical lefty, no sense of humor, insulting, and avoids the questions while implying a negative to the questioner. Reminds of the old saying about trying to teach a pig to sing, one just wastes their time and annoys the pig.
Is Bernie gonna keel over though? I think he might be dying of a broken heart
@Saxo2000 what you're doing is getting worked up over a misunderstanding
Saxo2000 · 41-45, M
@lovelywarpedlemon I'm not worked up, just gave you honest feedback on what I thought was a comment in really bad taste and bad faith despite you claiming otherwise, hopefully you won't encounter equally disrespectful attitudes when you are Bernie's age.
@Saxo2000 nice shame brigade though. i just don't think Bernie will win. and the point is that security is never guaranteed no matter the good intentions.
Saxo2000 · 41-45, M
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread, especially to those who replied in good faith. To those that didn't I hope I wasn't too rude in return.

I realise it's not nice to be the victim of click bait and I normally don't condone of it's use but I am not trying to sell a product here, peoples lives and financial security are at stake.

It's time for the US to finally do the right thing and join the rest of the industrialised world in having single Payer Healthcare for the sake of humanity.
Bernie2020.
sunrisehawk · 61-69, M
@Saxo2000 There are many, a majority in many pills, who believe lives are at risk with government controlled healthcare.
eli1601 · 70-79, M
FYI. Even if Crazy Bernie or Pocahontas win (and neither will), Medicare for All will never get through Congress.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@eli1601
Medicare has worked fine for me

80/20 is sub-par.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@Saxo2000
whatever you label it it's popular enough that the crowd cheered for the idea

I favor a Canadian-style single-payer health care system.

I do NOT favor mandatory health insurance "(i.e. Obamacare or similar plans) which gives tens of millions at sub-par care at a high price only to make the insurance companies rich.
Saxo2000 · 41-45, M
@beckyromero completely agreed, there should be no middle man ie. insurance company involved. Thanks for your valued input to this thread.

@Tres13 compelling argument, you have certainly convinced me

@Aardvark97 this is why it's so important to elect someone who is not funded by corporations and special interest and who has focused on creating a huge grassroots movement to help make the changes needed to get money out of politics. Good to hear we are on the same side, just be wary of opportunist candidates who only pretend to be grassroots funded.
I'm not getting the connection between the information in the tweet and why we should vote for Bernie. What is your interpretation of the above, and how does having medicare for all fix it?
Saxo2000 · 41-45, M
@midnightrose the connection is that the countries that already have something similar to medicare for all spend a lot less on healthcare per capita so unless you have stocks in the health insurance industry there is literally no rational argument against making a change to something much more humane like the rest of the industrialised world. Hope that helps clear things up.
@Saxo2000 It does a little bit, yes. Thanks.

While we spend almost twice as much per capita, their death per 100k isn't that far behind us. I'd want to see it written in ratio form to see the difference.

Our population is also higher than any of the countries I see listed. What works in a smaller populated country may not work for the US. Only one way to find out I suppose.
Saxo2000 · 41-45, M
@midnightrose I couldn't fit all the countries in the screenshot, as you can see France has not more than half in terms of death per 100k.

As for your other point, I have heard that point before but given the disaster of the current situation it is our moral responsibility to at least try to make the change.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
If the only thing I cared about was universal health care in the United States, then I would vote for Bernie.

But it's not the only thing I care about.
Saxo2000 · 41-45, M
@beckyromero that's fine, there are plenty who value identity, other shallow criteria and staying rich over people getting the healthcare they need and general socio-economic justice but that's not what this question is about. I'm glad to see you are intellectually honest when it comes to this topic though, it's very much appreciated thank you :)

@Aardvark97 It could be explained by a different food culture, I visited Señor Sipan's grave in Peru and the guide there told us that locals before the Inca era had an average lifespan of around 80 years, much higher than in Europe at the time, most likely because their diet consisted of fish and vegetables.

I love Bernie. Just wish he was ten years younger.
Saxo2000 · 41-45, M
@Burnley123 we all wish we were younger but despite the recent scare Bernie is one of the most physically dynamic candidates in the race.
Sooooooooo no .gov source ?
Saxo2000 · 41-45, M
@MarmeeMarch the source is listed here, I couldn't fit it in the original screenshot,
I'm sure you can find sources at their website if you don't trust them

@Saxo2000 I usually like the .gov sources the best because right or wrong - you cant argue with them.
And BTW as an American I am proud of the fact that we are number one in -
1) the olympics
2)space race
3)teaching 3r world countries how to feed themselves
4)home to basically every modern appliance or device you use today
5)have the finest universities in the world

Shall I go on ? - ok

6) have the most reliable medical facilities in the world
7) defend the nations that are unable to tie their own shoelaces
8 )feed starving nations
9) provide medicines to underdeveloped nations
10) quality of life -
11) the entertainment sector
12)able to house immigrants from all over the globe and somehow make it work (most of the time)

Tell me - If you needed a lung transplant or open heart surgery what country would you have it performed ?
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Sanders probably wont get the nomination.. But wouldnt you love to see him put in charge of health care?
eli1601 · 70-79, M
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@eli1601 Of course YOU wouldnt.. You are happy to see some disadvantaged so that you can be stronger and freer than they are. But most humans would. They understand that adding to the strength , health and fitness for life of others only helps the nation. Not just themselves.

Saxo2000 · 41-45, M
@RogueLoner Outside of executive orders which are in most cases avoided the president generally has to rely on Congress to push through legislation. This is one reason Bernie has focused on fostering a movement of progressives around him and keeps encouraging the average citizen to get involved in putting pressure on their representatives, because he realises it can be difficult for one man to accomplish any significant change on his own. The first step however is having leadership at the top that is completely uncorrupted by corporate and other special interests, which is one reason Obama was a disappointment to progressives.
