In your opinion why are there so many homeless people in LA and San Francisco ?

In Alameda County, the number of homeless residents jumped 43 percent over the past two years. In Orange County, that number was 42 percent. Kern County volunteers surveying the region’s homeless population found a 50 percent increase over 2018. San Francisco notched a 17 percent increase since 2017.

And on Tuesday, Los Angeles officials released the results of their most recent count: Homelessness was up by 12 percent over last year in the county and up 16 percent in the City of Los Angeles.

That puts L.A. County’s homeless population at 58,936 and the city’s at 36,300.

Even with 2 jobs people cannot afford the rents now...landlords need to be overseen...they GAUGE and that is illegal. I lived in my car for 7 months while working 2 jobs...through no fault of my own...it happens all the time...WORKING POOR I believe the term is.
Nimbus · M
@Fernie That's sad when one tries to make a living.
Fernie · F
@Nimbus soon it'll be the obscenely rich and the desperately poor...THAT is their goal...1984
Peapod · 61-69, F
@Fernie, my ex lived out of his car too and he was working a white collared job. He holds a Master's degree and doesn't have any vices like smoking or anything else that would be an extra expense. He simply could not keep up with the cost of living around here and his job in a school district was through a temp agency. I never knew this really happened to people until I saw it happen to him. This was a few years after we were divorced.
Peapod · 61-69, F
@Nimbus, the working poor really have it tough. They do not qualify for assistance because what they consider a poverty wage is not realistic in most areas. Most people here in the N.E. can expect to pay rent that is comparable to most mortgages. 😞
Fernie · F
@Peapod That is exactly right...here in the NE it is becoming impossible for minimum wage folks...even with several jobs..to afford the obscene rents...food is becoming that way as well....and Dentists, Veterinarians, pet food,...just about everything..... Capitalism gone mad...it is pure greed and the pursuit of power over the working citizens. Not for one second did I think I would ever end up sleeping in my car after working all my life, maintaining my own apartment and a car...that changed rapidly...that trickle down CRAP didn't work for us
Peapod · 61-69, F
@Fernie, it is absolutely ridiculous. Every time I hear someone say that we have a strong economy, I know they don't mean that for most working people. Sad that many people in today's world will never know the joy of retirement.
Peapod · 61-69, F
@Fernie...your meme above makes me think of the real meaning of "trickle down economics".
Fernie · F
@Peapod Yep sad...and CRIMINAL... we really need to rise up against it...but we probably will just continue to let them bulldoze over us. Whenever I hear that moron trump talk about how good the economy is because of him I screech at the tv...WHO'S ECONOMY????
Peapod · 61-69, F
@Fernie, that is why I truly question how any working class person can rally around this president other than the fact they got a side to them that the president strokes. I wish more people would educate themselves more. There was a time and a day when millions supported Hitler too.
Fernie · F
@Peapod Exactly...see how well it worked for working people Reagan?
Fernie · F
@Peapod Yes! I have read several times over the past 2 years that the orange demon from hell always keeps a copy of Mein Kampf by his bed. Makes sense...he's got a serious following
Peapod · 61-69, F
@Fernie, Reagan certainly got the ball rolling against the middle class and his charm made many not understand the harm his policies would do in the long run. There is no question there is some real wealth in our country, but many of us are paying dearly for that.
Peapod · 61-69, F
@Fernie, it's not such a stretch to see the similarities. Trump has no shame in blaming
certain groups of people for the country's problems. I have never seen a country so divided as it is today. It's really hateful in some corners and I am dreading the election. I can only hope we will be voting this man out of office come next year.
Fernie · F
@Peapod There is so much money out there which we will never see...THEY own more and more of it. I worked from age 8 to age 61...had to stop because of a disability...I live on very little,,,fortunately I can do that well...and SO look forward to my "cost of living" raise we get every January...this year it'll be 12 bucks...that's one buck a month...that's not even enough for a Snickers bar. They won't stop until we are a third world country run by tyrants and dictators who take it all and leave us scraps
Fernie · F
@Peapod It's not a stretch at ALL
Peapod · 61-69, F
@Fernie...YIKES! That is a little disconcerting to say the least.
Fernie · F
@Peapod If you ever have a moment...research the MANY MANY similarities between trump and every other murderous dictator throughout history...trump has idolized them all of his unhinged life...which makes him a thousand times more dangerous than many know
Peapod · 61-69, F
@Fernie, makes me very sad that I live amongst people that could ever elect such a man. I swear this is not a Dem vs. Republican thing either. I didn't care for some of our past presidents, but this one has zero morals from what I know. He is scary and we are very fortunate to at least live in a time where murder on a large scale would not go unseen like it once did. I would also like to believe there is still enough sensible people in our country that would never look the other way either.
