Do spouses also get diplomatic immunity? I don’t think anyone should get it for a serious crime like that.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@cherokeepatti I agree. But the spouse of a diplomat wanted on a charge like this sets a poor example. Cant help but wonder of this would have happened back in the good old days.

@cherokeepatti I agree and that should be irrespective of whatever country they are from

If all the media say is true, then without a doubt she needs to return to the country and face the music. It's difficult to believe that this is so cut n dry though and I cant help think there is more to it.

@pennynoodles
If all the media say is true, then without a doubt she needs to return to the country
That's part of the problem IMO.
Who knows when the media is telling the truth anymore?
MissTaken · 36-40, F
Her husband is apparently NOT on the list of accredited diplomats. She has also reputedly pleaded guilty to dangerous driving in the US some years ago.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@MissTaken Yeah i wondered if that might be the case !
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@MissTaken If he’s not a real diplomat then his wife needs to be extradited and sent back to the UK for an investigation & charges etc.

On arrival and during discussion he reveals that Sacoolas IS IN THE ROOM NEXT DOOR !!

Family rejects 'opportunity to meet Sacoolas'.

She should be prosecuted, and this diplomatic immunity needs looking , as far as I'm concerned no one is above the law
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@SW-User I'm kinda curious to know how she left.
If she left on a scheduled flight i'm wondering why her passport wasn't flagged.
And if she left under a diplomatic flag then she clearly broke the law there too !
SW-User
@Picklebobble2 The family have offered forgiveness if she comes back to the UK and it was an unavoidable accident but have said if she doesn't return they want her extradited and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Test of Dominic Raab's diplomatic skills
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@SW-User Been looking for a report on how they knew it was her but haven't found anything. Couldn't find anything to suggest she fled the scene and i imagine there would have been plenty made of that if that were the case. Nor any mention of a sobriety test which is pretty standard in RTA's.
Ironicman · 56-60, M
I don't believe it was hit and run. Her details were taken at the scene and she has since disappeared during ongoing Police investigations. I fear she has been ordered to leave the UK on the advice of the American Embassy. Dont think she had much say in the situation due to the occupation of her husband. I'm certain she'll be back
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Ironicman I think somebody there 'jumped the gun' and advised her to leave KNOWING it would cause a complaint.
Unless she either has 'previous' or further questions need asking !
Ironicman · 56-60, M
@Picklebobble2 I read her husband is a spy and the publicity will/has blow/n his cover

Reuters reports

That it's thought she pulled out on the wrong side of the road leaving an air base and hit the motorcyclist.

Apparently the police did ask the U.S for a 'waiver of immunity' in order to question the suspect but it was declined.
