@suchaslife Hasn't that changed fairly recently? I was under the impression that it previously was considered a disorder.

@suchaslife the suicide rate amongst the trans community is around 40%. Theres definitely significant psychological distress.

@suchaslife I am not sure what to think. I have read studies that conflict on this issue.

@astrosandorbits most if it is due to other obstacles that lead and increase their distress, including a lack of acceptance within society, direct or indirect experiences with discrimination, or assault. These experiences lead many transgender people to suffer with anxiety, depression or related disorders at higher rates than nontransgender persons so yeah the rate is high and it shouldn't be

@astrosandorbits I have read that as well. Also life expectancy for those with hormonal therapy and/or surgery is short.

I fear that there may be over reach by clinicians.

@suchaslife Absolutely. My concern is that I don't always trust clinicians. This is a very complex issue and I fear clinicians trying to show off their abilities to the detriment of the patient.

@suchaslife I don't know what to think. I'm sure there are people that do well as transgendered. However many do not. There is not enough data on outcomes yet.
