I could never understand why companies like Walmart and Apple pay people in other countries to jobs we could do. They should be giving back. That’s putting America first.
Spoiledbrat · F
I mean I know why. It’s because it’s cheaper but that is not putting America first. It is putting themselves first. And everyone in America is important. We all contribute even if it’s in a way that’s less valuable it’s still valuable because services are getting used and if it wasn’t for big companies exploiting those very poor people they wouldn’t be rich in the first place. @Spoiledbrat

@Spoiledbrat i understand that, but whats that got to do with white supremacy,
itsoeasy · 56-60, M
@Spoiledbrat yesi understand that, every where gets that, but what has that got to do with whites being superior
Spoiledbrat · F
I don’t know. It just came out. @itsoeasy
LireaSemaji · 26-30, F
@itsoeasy white supremacy is also about putting Americans (certain ones) first
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Spoiledbrat Well, for one, you'd simply not be able to afford an American-built iPhone. And they wouldn't even be able to make one where everything is made in America. The right chip fabs simply don't exist.
Spoiledbrat · F
I don’t know that anyone should be first so I don’t disagree. People are important. We all make up the this planet. We’re all here. Though I can’t make other countries follow suit. The most important thing that I could hope for is that people aren’t bullied and beaten and or kept hostage on their land. Religion does not matter. @LireaSemaji

@Spoiledbrat I agree to the fact that corporations that outsourced are traitorous to America and should come back and put Americans back to work. We also need to force corporations and the rich to pay their fair share in taxes and eliminate the homeless problem and lower the cost of living for everyone and pay fair wages for everyone and eliminate school lunch charges. However, the way the right wingers are saying it is very racist.
itsoeasy · 56-60, M
@LireaSemaji well they should call it, america first, instead they might get more support
itsoeasy · 56-60, M
@NativeOregonian everybody agrees with oyu on that point, but it still has nothing to do wiht white supremcisy, (spelt wrong im sure)
LireaSemaji · 26-30, F
@itsoeasy There’s more to white supremacy.... white america first
NativeOregonian · 56-60
@QuixoticSoul Yes we would be able afford them, because Apple would not charge us as much. Quit justifying bullshit corporatist greed.
NativeOregonian · 56-60
@itsoeasy Because white supremacists like saying it to put white america first.
itsoeasy · 56-60, M
@NativeOregonian apple phones are made for a dollar in china, then sold for $400, so they could easily make themin usa for $50 and stril sell them for $400
NativeOregonian · 56-60
@itsoeasy Exactly
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@NativeOregonian @itsoeasy The bill of materials for a current iphone is around $300 and goes up with every model. Apples's margins are nowhere near 400%.
And those components are all manufactured outside of the states. A 100% made-in-us iphone would be crazy expensive.

@QuixoticSoul You're too young to remember when things WERE made in the USA and DID NOT cost an arm and a leg. It wasn't until corporations outsourced in the 90's when shit started getting insanely expensive.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@NativeOregonian Once you factor in the inflation, old timey stuff was often more expensive than it is now.
And I think you're underestimating just how high tech and complex a modern phone is. You're carrying around a very powerful little computer in your pocket.

@QuixoticSoul 20 years ago a 42 inch plasma tv cost over $25,000, today you can get one brand new for $300, don't give me that bullshit.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@NativeOregonian Those are LCD TVs now, which are much cheaper to make.
And they're TVs - costs work differently into that segment, because you don't need bleeding edge computing stuffed into a tiny package in every generation. High end laptops are also still very expensive - but stuff does trickle down, and you can also get very cheap laptops and phones with obsolete tech.

@Spoiledbrat Corporate America is not about Americans. It is about profit and foreigners work cheaper than Americans and have to compete. Most big American business reply of federal or state tax breaks to make a profit. Therefore competition doesnt enter into it.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@LvChris I mean, there is definitely some price fuckery to take advantage of “what the market will bear” principle - and apple has higher margins than most and targets the luxury segment first.
But I don’t understand how people can look at this miracle of technology that’s in their pockets and think it only costs a dollar to make. And of course, after the component and manufacture costs, there is the constant intensive multi-faceted R&D, and marketing costs. Apple is making money, not printing it.
And consider - they don’t have any American competitors at all. Everyone they’re competing against is manufacturing in lower labor cost nations.
Where the real crazy markups are is clothing.
