Who was the best US president in the last 40 years?

@ChipmunkErnie I disagree with you. He was centrist, one of the few in modern times, and if the GOP hadn’t taken such a racist right turn they might’ve worked with him.

@bijouxbroussard If they weren't racist, they would have loved his approval of extension of spying on US citizens, drone attacks that killed civilians, intervention in foreign countries, cyber attack on Iran, etc.

@bijouxbroussard for many, yep, that did play a part. even though, he was just as much white as he was black. genetically, DNA wise. I would still take Obama over Hillary any day. LOL

@YourMomsSecretCrush Are you familiar with the “one drop rule” ? Obama was considered black and treated accordingly. I can tell you as a biracial person too, white supremacists are not big on those type of “fractions”.

@bijouxbroussard hell, if we go by that rule, Im black too. as are alot in the south, including a whole lot of racists. some of the most racist "white" people i have ever met are darker than many who consider themselves "black".

@YourMomsSecretCrush I totally believe that. Especially in the poor areas, being white is the only status some felt they might have, and they guard it furiously.

@bijouxbroussard I was once called a cracker by a lady who was lighter than me who had light green eyes. i burst out laughing. i mean, damn, if you gonna call me a cracker, at least be darker than me. LOL

@YourMomsSecretCrush And I grew up being called the “n” word by Italian Americans, some of whom had brown skin and curly hair like mine. Go figure.

My main two issues with President Obama were foreign policy blunders (the redline with Syria was a huge mistake) and the fact that he didn’t take full advantage of having a Congress to work with his first two years, especially considering what could have and should have been done around gun safety. He had a two year window where he could have done the things like universal background checks, renewing the assault weapons ban, and closing the gun show loophole, but that never got done. By the time it became a priority, there was no way the human roadblocks elected in 2010 were going to allow any of it. In my mind, it’s a missed opportunity that we’re still paying for today. @bijouxbroussard

@SW-User Fair enough. The ACA was something the GOP, had they been so inclined, could’ve shared as a shining achievement. It was based upon Romney’s plan for Massachusetts when he was governor. And in the states that didn’t try to dismantle or sabotage it, many people with pre-existing health issues had coverage and care for the first time in decades. The same people who criticize the Democrats for “partisan attacks” on Trump (ironic considering his tweets and rallies) basically robbed the American people of healthcare purely for partisan reasons. They spent the 7 years it existed, not trying to improve any glitches, but trying to repeal it altogether. And when they finally let Trump destroy it, they had no viable alternative ready to replace it. And they still don’t, three years later.

As someone who has a preexisting condition and college kids I’ve been able to keep on my insurance, I definitely appreciate and benefited from those protections in the ACA. @bijouxbroussard

@SW-User It’s one of those things I would’ve thought could’ve cut across party lines. Everyone needs to be able to see a doctor, for themselves or their children, at some point. And I figured that those who worry about having to pay for others realized they were already paying when people went to the ER because they were uninsured.

Unfortunately, I think the opposition was based much more on whose name is on it versus what it was or is. I can’t imagine too many people who didn’t rest a little easier knowing that their pre-existing conditions were covered or that they’d be able to cover their kids through the entirety of their college years. @bijouxbroussard

@SW-User Exactly. The GOP deliberately poisoned the well by calling it “Obamacare” rather than its title ACA, because of the dog whistle effect they knew it would have on even their constituents who benefited from the plan.
