Will China send troops to Hong Kong?

Although protocol dictates that Hong Kong must ask for help from China to quell the protests, will Beijing act under it's own volition?
If Carrie Lam does request army intervention, how will the world react?
10,000 PLA troops are permanently based in Hong Kong.
Tensions are rising rapidly.

I don't have much doubt about that.

Probably while Trump is still president since Xi knows Trump won't do anything that would seriously harm China's economy as a punitive measure.

They are already threatening to and I've no doubt they'll carry through with it. They do not like nor tolerate dissent.

@Gusman I don't think there are many local pro China, Hong Kong Citizens but I do agree about the Banking Industry. I don't think there will be any reaction from other countries though unfortunately, China is too big. China will want to "Save face" to put it mildly.

@Zoranna Most countries of the world will do as China tells them or face economic ruin.
There have been clashes between local residents, Pro China verses Pro Democracy.
This could escalate.

@Gusman I know there have been clashes, I've been watching, but I think China was a little taken aback at the strength and determination of the Pro Democracy population. Sad reminder of Tiananmen Square but at least they're using rubber bullets this time. I have NO doubt it's going to excalate unfortunately.

It's sad but I can't see the pro democracy protesters win. The Chinese state is too powerful and has too much skin in the game.

There's a horribly sad inevitability about this i fear.
It will happen when China wants it to. The more social order in Hong Kong breaks down, the more excuses China has. Remember Tianenman Square.

@whowasthatmaskedman The square was in mainland China.
Protocol insists Hong Kong Must ask for assistance from Beijing.
The question becomes, does Carrie Lam have enough influence in the Hong Kong Legislature to over ride any attempt to pass a resolution asking for PLA intervention?
@Gusman Thats where the breakdown of Law and Order comes in. She can claim that the Rule of Law has broken down and all the Rules are suspended. Those Mainland troops will have no hesitation in repeating what they have already done elsewhere.
