There are already predictions of economic collapse from it in Japan and Italy to the point that Italy in a desperate attempt to curb the negative birth rate even started a fertility festival this year.

Long story short you invest in families for the same reasons you invest in education. Hate to say it but in the big picture single bachelors are not as important to the nation as a whole so it makes no practical sense to do what you suggest no matter how many people feel their feelings are hurt.
