Is Boris Johnson the British Trump?

I've heard this said by people and there kind of is some truth in it though of course there are differences.

Trump is a very American archetype and Johnson is a very English one. The American is a walking cliche of the brash and flashy business tycoon whereas Johnson is a walking cliche of something closer to home. He's a 'toff' and a 'cad'. The posh-boy who never grew up who is entertaining but utterly flakey and unreliable. So no, not the sort of person you would think qualified to be PM and yes, this has been said before.

Johnson's career has been the very definition of failing upwards. He got fired from his newspaper job for lying, got recorded organising to beat up a journalist, was a national embarrassment as a Foreign Secretary but he is likely to be the next leader of our country. Every time he's failed, a combination of charisma, contacts and class privilege helped him survive and go to the next level.

His one reasonable job was as mayor of London, where he ran the city (or his advisors did!) as a liberal conservative. Since then, he's hitched his banner to the populist-right bandwagon that is Brexit, for no other reason than he thought it would benefit his career. Unfortunately, he's set to be proven correct but at great cost to the country. Its well known he's coveted leadership for a long time but he's driven by ego and not principle. He claims to be in favour of a no-deal Brexit.

No...since Boris came first, Trump is the American Boris.

@Vivaci I thought Trump was quite a bit older than Boris.
@Crazychick older yes, but Boris is in politics much longer than Trump.

@Vivaci That doesn't matter to me. Trump was born well before Boris so Trump came first. Where I come from age outranks politics in importance.
@Vivaci Trump's been in the public eye longer. His persona hasn't changed since he's been president, which is part of the problem.

@bijouxbroussard Hasn't it? That's unusual for a Gemini.
@Crazychick Boris had already shown us what he is when Trump entered Politics. So on those lines, it's only fair to compare him to Boris.

Age doesn't matter in this context! 🤦‍♀️
@bijouxbroussard lol... you're right. He was quite known to the American people. But if we compare him to Boris, I think it's only befitting that we give respect where it's due.
@Vivaci "Respect" ? Neither sound particularly respectable, based upon their histories.🤔
@bijouxbroussard Lol...true!! I meant respecting the period of their political career and that seniority. Not them. 🤗
