To me, patriotism is like drawing a shape on the floor and saying, "Everything inside this shape is great because it's inside the shape". It makes no sense.

I feel like patriotism gets confused with nationalism. Patriotism is great; devotion and support for your country! but nationalism gets into people's heads creating chaos and divisions within different people whereas with patriotism could most likely spark inspiration to do the same

I agree. Patriotism isn't a bad thing and it can be a lot of fun, but it's definitely overrated these days as it's seen as some kind of holy virtue or something.

I think in the US, it is 'under-rated' by the culture warriors. It's trendy among culture / identity freaks to express a kind of antitheses of patriotism and show a measure of disdain and shame for this country. Like everything else these freaks come up with, it's not good, but that is more of the pseudo liberal chic. "Not good" is good, and 'good' is not good.
