I blame Trump for a lot of dumb shit in modern society, but I certainly can't say he's responsible for the fact that actual grown adults think 'libtard' is a decent burn. Aside from just being fucking lazy and cliche, it's not even a well-designed perjorative.
Sometimes, the word is compared to "Republicunts," which is loserific enough on its own for a variety of reasons, but honestly, that's giving it way too much credit because at least Republicunts has a decently clever wordplay element, since 'Republicans' cand 'cunts' share the letter 'c,' and syllable count is correct. "Libtards" is just 'liberals' and 'retards' mixed together, which is a completely unintelligible combination in terms of pronunciation and spelling. A better comparison would be if libs started calling you guys "conservimorons" or some shit.
@Budwick You got me there, at least on a technical level. tbh, I kinda started saying it ironically and now it's a part of my regular vocabulary. I need help.
@BlueVeins except that foul mouthed libs call conservative women c*nts as the normal course of debate . Libtard is not foul language and is in the common language dictionary
The fact that libs whine and squeal and do the snowflake act whenever the word Libtard is used insures it’s always going to be used .
except that foul mouthed libs call conservative women c*nts as the normal course of debate
First of all, that's blatant whataboutism; just because some number of liberals do it doesn't make it right. Just a heads-up, calling people cunts in debates isn't normal regardless of the political affiliation.
Second of all, the fact that it's in a common language dictionary doesn't make it not foul; the basic structure of the word reveals its meaning/origin, and it's literally listed as 'contemptuous' and offensive. You could find 'nigger' in that same dictionary with literally the exact same labels, or 'motherfucker' under somewhat similar ones.
Third, the fact that it's widespread doesn't make it cool. If anything, that fact only amplifies the absurdity of the term's use. If it was just one or two people goin' around screaming about "the libtards," that would be pretty understandable, but the fact that it's at least thousands (and probably millions) should really be a lot more humiliating.
Fourth of all, the fact that this is true:
The fact that libs whine and squeal and do the snowflake act whenever the word Libtard is used insures it’s always going to be used .
and I concede that it is, is a victory on the part of left-wingers more than anything else. Leftists want the public to see conservatives as closed-minded and unpleasant; manipulating them into deliberately triggering their base is the most strategically sound decision they could possibly make. I'm not saying they necessarily did manipulating conservatives, but for the purposes of this discussion, they might as well have. There's a reason why strategically-adept right-wingers like Ben Shapiro and Steven Crowder don't pull that kind of shit.
