I think young criminals should je locked up till they learn a trade.

not a set number of years... but they can choose to become a carpenter or a plumber or some college degree and they stay in jail till they finish that training. so they can then start a new live without crime. and if someone doesnt want to do any kind of training fine.. they stay in there forever.

You maybe able to train someone in less than a year but does that fulfill his punishment of his crime? What if he murdered one of your family members and he was a repeat felon? Would you feel ok releasing him back into society where he may kill again?
