I don't feel that I, personally, owe anyone anything. My father's grandfather came here from England after the emancipation of the slaves, and my mother's family were never slave owners. So does that mean that because only my mother's family was living here, even though not involved, that I only owe half a reparation?
In order to do these reparations properly, you would have to run the genealogy of each and every person living in the United States today, because I refuse to pay for something my ancestors didn't do and most people feel that way. The idea that the entire country has to pay reparations in their taxes for something done in the south just doesn't fly with me or with most people.
I also want to know exactly WHO these descendants of slaves are, and how many are living in the United States today....and if these descendants of slaves are half white now, do they have to pay themselves? If they are 1/4 white, do they only have to pay themselves 1/4 of a reparation? Do the descendants of Hispanics living in California before the emancipation have to pay reparations because they are United States citizens? Do the Native Americans have to pay? After all, they were LIVING in the country while the south kept slaves, as were my mother's ancestors. Even though none of them were involved, do they ALL have to pay?
Or is it JUST the white people, being kicked to the curb again by some white A$$ who has deep, deep neurotic guilt, or some partially black A$$ who WANTS the white people (and everyone else, apparently) to feel lots of financial pain for something they didn't do personally. And then what is to prevent the children now unborn of the repaid slaves descendants from filing suit against their parents who took the money and blew it? THEY won't be paid, will they? Nope.
The entire concept is so deeply stupid, as are most of these so-called progressive ideas, that it is just hard for me to believe that real people are really this dumb.
