Beto (Robert) O'Rourke is now running for President after losing the race for senate in Texas. Have you listened to what he wants to do?

One of the things he said he wants to do is tear down all existing border walls, including that in his own home town of El Paso, Texas. El Paso is right smack dab next to Ciudad Juarez, one of the 12 most dangerous towns in Mexico with a travel advisory against it.

Here are some stats.

"56.16 homicides per every 100,000 people
In 2017, Ciudad Juarez had a population of 1,448,859 people and reported 814 homicides, landing it on the list of the most dangerous cities in Mexico (and around the world). A report from the State Department’s Overseas Security Advisory Council concluded that U.S. citizens are not specifically targeted for violence in this city, situated on the Rio Grande, just south of El Paso, Texas.

But it still warned that “U.S. citizens traveling to Ciudad Juarez and the city of Chihuahua need to guard against robbery, carjacking, theft, and burglary.” While homicides decreased in the state of Chihuahua between 2011 and 2015, they began increasing again in 2016. Forbes characterizes Ciudad Juarez as “a gritty industrial hub that became known as Mexico’s ‘Murder City’ during an outbreak of cartel violence from 2008 to 2012. ”"

Some of the violence in Ciudad Juarez is gang related. There are beheadings in the streets, and gang members are found hanging from highway overpasses.

Additionally, there is a phenomenon there which is somewhat unusual. Female homicides.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Female_homicides_in_Ciudad_Ju%C3%A1rez The link states that 370 women have been killed, and hundreds have just disappeared. 12 female bodies were discovered in a mass grave.

Now, in light of all the stats and the evidence about the dangers of his neighboring city in Mexico, called Mexico's "Murder City", exactly how messed up would you have to be, mentally, to think that tearing down the border wall right there would be good for El Paso?

And is someone who is that effed up in the head a great choice for President?

Your thoughts?

He's not likely to be my choice (unless he gets the nomination), but I kind of like seeing him in the mix.

@MistyCee Vanity Fair loves him...the editor has a crush, apparently.
@4meAndyou he's young and sexy from a political point of view, much like AOC, but not quite as toxic or extreme.

I liked that he gave Cruz a run and hope he'll do the same with the Dems. If nothing else, he's a good demographics alternative in the mix.

@MistyCee I agree that he is young and reasonably decent in appearance. It's very, very sad, but a lot of people vote for appearance. He is only marginally less dangerous than AOC, IMO.
@4meAndyou Actually, I was thinking more about age today.

I'm not sure how many 70 + year olds will be on the ballot in 2020, but my guess is there will be at least one younger in 2024, assuming there is a 2024 election of course.

@MistyCee The Dems need young blood for sure....and people who are actually Democrats. I am a former Dem and I am horrified by what is happening to their party.

But let's face it...way too many people vote for guys because they think they are "cute" or good looking....and DON'T vote for ugly nasty women using the same motivation.

Cute does not equal smart. Smart does not equal wise. And age does not necessarily confer any benefits.
@4meAndyou I agree
