Rep. Liz Cheney Slams Trump Plan to Bill Our Allies
Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), the third-ranking House Republican, on Sunday criticized President Donald Trump’s reported plan to force U.S. allies to pay billions of dollars more for hosting American troops on their soil.

Under a new formula devised by the president, allies such as Japan and South Korea would potentially pay Washington the full cost of stationing U.S. troops in their territory, plus an additional 50 percent.

The formula, which Trump has dubbed “cost plus 50,” could cause affected countries to contribute five times what they currently do, according to The Washington Post.

Cheney told NBC’s “Meet The Press” that the impact of this plan would be “absolutely devastating” to U.S. diplomacy.

“We benefit tremendously ... [from] our bases and our cooperation with our allies,” she told host Chuck Todd. “The notion that we are somehow now going to charge them cost plus 50 is really, it’s wrongheaded and it would be devastating to the security of our nation and to our allies.”
He seems to be confusing defense and diplomacy with real estate deals.
Along with his other deals. We should all invest in companies that produce trump brand name paper towels. And "Make America Great Again" is another one of his Registered trade marks, maybe we could sell them red caps and teddy bears or invest in his "Trump Escorts" in China. @Byron8by7

if you have to get a security guard, do you have to pay? why shouldn't the US get paid too for services

@Blondgrl2004 so true lol but god forbid we try and lower our debt...
Blondgrl2004 · 26-30, F
@Ryanoliver2011 can use this money to pay the debt
Ryanoliver2011 · 26-30, M
@Blondgrl2004 hopefully but all this stupid deficit spending is crazy. The credit card companies will eventually cancel your card but it doesn’t work that way for our government smh...

So now Okinawa has another solid reason to want American troops off their soil.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@Longpatrol Like we were asked to leave the Philippines? I think they’re doing fine in the PI, I think.

We should ask [@dewns] if they miss the US presence.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
Actually I could probably come up with an argument that we should pay them to allow US bases on their soil.
Human1000 · M
He never will. This is just an effort to shore up support from the uneducated American morons like you see on this post. Trump acts like the public highschool bozos here.

I disagree with Representative Cheney! Our allies SHOULD pay for more of their military defense costs; they SHOULD pay the United States Defense Department for our military assistance and service!
And if any of those countries don't/can't pay the cost plus 50 what happens then ?
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@softspokenman I have this image in my head and I get lightheaded.

It’s like weed for Christians?
@SimplyTracie That'll keep you awake nights for sure ! 😖 Yuuuuk !

I'm with DJT on this one

I'm just catching up with this issue, but asking to be reimbursed the cost (or most of it) isn't unreasonable. The premium sounds wonky.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
We are not on the paid mercenary business at teast the government as far as I know. That’s Blackwater and those types right? @joe438
joe438 · 61-69, M
@jackjjackson That's certainly true. As a matter of trade though, we have military that our allies don't have, so if they cover the expense of our help that's not unreasonable. The mercenaries are available for sale to anyone.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
We do get some benefits from having bases however so do our alleged allies. They should contribute something to their own defense. @joe438
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
The question is whether we are getting reasonable value for what we taxpayers are paying for. A legitimate question.
