Americans, are you okay with this? For the next two years Congress will not pass or amend any laws.

DACA will be ignored. The Immigration laws will not get fixed. Nothing will get done but investigations. People are now saying that if Congress begins to investigate when they are motivated by hatred, when there is no evidence of a crime, it is the re-emergence of McCarthyism...which was a great evil.

The function of Congress is to make laws. They are also supposed to do oversight over the Executive Branch, but...

"Oversight is an implied rather than an enumerated power under the U.S. Constitution.[2] The government's charter does not explicitly grant Congress the authority to conduct inquiries or investigations of the executive, to have access to records or materials held by the executive, or to issue subpoenas for documents or testimony from the executive."

How do you feel about the plan for endless investigation which will prevent members of Congress from doing anything else?

I wouldn't be happy about that, but I don't think that's the plan. To the contrary, the broad scope and extent of the beginnings of this process leads me to think that the Democrats know they can't get away with endless investigations.

I also don't think the Democrats would even be capable of not at least appearing to avoid legisating in the way that Republicans did in the golden age of the tea party. Their base isn't built that way, and they're not going to be able to get away with not dealing with issues like infrastructure, for example, although I doubt there's much room for an immigration overhaul.

@MistyCee I am so tired of the massive dysfunction. I want someone...anyone...in Congress to address the loopholes in illegal immigration, and I want to see DACA resolved.

keep your eyes open and stay active. people get this stuff. it will get better.

@Platoscave I don't know about that. Congress is the single best example of swampiness in Washington. It's so bad they are like a bunch of sharks in a feeding frenzy, all biting each other.
@4meAndyou I wouldn't mind seeing that happen, but I think Trump's power games and the emergency thing have probably made it a lot less likely this term.

@4meAndyou we have to decide on what position to support, i maintain mine.

@MistyCee You are right about that. Resolving the illegal immigration loopholes would help to resolve one of Trump's campaign promises..(the border situation), and he is determined to try to keep his campaign promises, while the Dems are equally determined to sabotage his efforts.
@4meAndyou I see it differently, of course, but it gets to the same place. Trump basically took a hammer approach when a screwdriver might have gotten better results, IMO, and made fine adjustments much harder.

I tend to see that as a divide and conquer kind of thing, and it might still ultimately work, but I hope it doesn't. I think we'll see in 2020.

@MistyCee DHS just finished informing Congress a couple of minutes ago.
@4meAndyou that was quick.
4meAndyou · F
@MistyCee Yes, they hop to it really quick when I want something...😂
@4meAndyou lol. I'm curious as to how it went. Nielssen is pretty good too usually.

@MistyCee The chairman (D), advised her to wrap it up, and didn't seem very interested in what she had to say. It won't make a scrap worth of difference, because the agenda is to crap on Trump, and if he wants anything fixed about illegal immigration or human trafficking of women being raped in transit the dems will pretend it doesn't exist.
@4meAndyou hmm. I'll have to see this at some point.
