Can you, personally, discuss politics without insulting people?
If you find yourself tempted to insult someone over politics (or another contentious issue), do you back out of the discussion or let the flame war begin?

Best way to discuss ideas is as dispassionately as possible and avoid personal insults. When people start to use strong language aimed at the person they disagree with, I tend to think they have run out of ideas and it's best to retire from the discussion.
