Why do some people believe Socialism is the way forward when it has never worked?

Very few people believe that actual socialism is the way forward. Hardly anyone is looking to dispense with the free market.

@QuixoticSoul We do depend on some form of socialism don’t we? Isn’t it an important part of how we survive?

@SimplyTracie Well, not really. We have some social services - like social security and medicare. We also have some labor-friendly regulations, like OSHA, etc. Those things were in some ways fought for and promoted by socialists in the US, so have some associations with them - but they're not actually socialism.

Socialism is primarily about social ownership or control of means of production. That's not really in place in US, even if the system we have is far from laissez faire.

@QuixoticSoul I see. Trump says that the democrats all want Socialism. I don’t know anyone that wants what you just described as Socialism.

Has there been anyone who has spoken out in favor of it?

@SimplyTracie Nobody substantial, aside maybe from some edgy college tankies.

In the US, "socialism" is when someone dares to suggest that maybe there is something wrong with being the richest country in the world, yet having so many people sleeping on the streets, and millions without healthcare.

@QuixoticSoul I agree with you last statement. Something is wrong.
But you don’t think Socialism has anything to do with it.
