Pelosi Warns Republicans: A Democrat President Could Declare a "National Emergency" on Guns

Oh sure. Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell threw up his hands and told President Trump to sign the damned bill and declare a "national emergency" to fund your damned wall.

But, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi fired a shot across the bow of the USS Republicans in a news conference this afternoon that a Democrat president can play the "national emergency" game, too.

To a reporter's question, she warned that if Trump goes down this road she could see a future Democrat president delaring a "national emergency" over gun violence.

"Want to talk about a national emergency? Let's talk about today, the one-year anniversary of another manifestation of the epidemic of gun violence in America," Pelosi said at a press conference, referencing the Parkland, Florida school shooting that left 17 dead last year. "That's a national emergency. Why don't you declare that emergency, Mr. President? I wish you would."

"But a Democratic president can do that," Pelosi said. "A Democratic president can declare a national emergencies as well. The precedent that the president is setting here is something that should be met with great unease and dismay by the Republicans."

NRA spent $30 million to get Trump elected. He is bought and paid for.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@toodlepip They got the money from the Russians. Double bought and paid for.
@windinhishair

The F.B.I. and special counsel Robert Mueller are investigating meetings between N.R.A. officials and powerful Russian operatives, trying to determine if those contacts had anything to do with the gun group spending $30 million to help elect Donald Trump—triple what it invested on behalf of Mitt Romney in 2012. The use of foreign money in American political campaigns is illegal. One encounter of particular interest to investigators is between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian banker at an N.R.A. dinner.

Can you imagine if a Democratic president did this?? There would be riots in the street and public hangings. 😏
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@toodlepip Exactly. But since it is Trump, they just don't care if he and his kids and campaign committed treason. But let Obama wear a tan suit......

@toodlepip Wouldnt one love to see the NRA done for Money Laundering? And a win-win for the Russians if its true. But its a bit of a stretch to prove it.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@whowasthatmaskedman The investigations of criminal activity surrounding Trump will continue long beyond his presidency. He's lived a life without rules or consequences.
@windinhishair I forgot ALL about the tan suit "scandal". But, Trump is the worst treated president ever.😉
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@windinhishair Yes. My dislike of him goes way back to his business practices pre "The Apprentice" Here we jail people for conduct like that. In America he gets to be president.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@whowasthatmaskedman His money-laundering for Russians goes back to right after the fall of the Soviet Union. Shady business practices have always been his approach.
@whowasthatmaskedman The minute he did not want to show his taxes I smelled a rat.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@toodlepip So did anyone who was thinking. But 70+ years of lying will make you very accomplished at it.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@windinhishair But now, for the first time, he is being properly investigated. As much as you can argue about lying and collusion, or even forgive sharp practice to dodge a draft. And messing around with woman is a Presidential sport it seems. I would like to think ANY reasonable person draws the line at tax evasion and laundering criminal money.
@windinhishair Well, he learned from Roy Cohn. That sums it up, doesn't it?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@whowasthatmaskedman 35% of the voting population accepts tax evasion and criminal money laundering as acceptable for their chosen leader. And infidelity and racism.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@windinhishair Thats pretty close to the "Trump" vote. Or was at the start. But hes gradually losing them issue by issue.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@whowasthatmaskedman He still has a base that apparently will support him no matter how criminal, no matter what he does to destroy democracy.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@windinhishair Lets play fair. The state electoral systems the boundary gerrymanders and voter apathy have done a fair job of that without his help.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@whowasthatmaskedman True enough. Several of the most egregious problems were corrected in the 2018 mid-terms, and now you see a congress more reflective of the actual voters. Leading up to the election, Democrats would have to win more than 54% of the vote nationwide to break even in the House due to gerrymandering alone.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@windinhishair And thanks to Trump that shouldnt be too much of a Challenge. Dont you just love unintended consequences?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@whowasthatmaskedman I expect the next two years to see many more voter suppression efforts to maintain Republican seats that would be lost in fair elections.
@windinhishair aww you found a fellow believer -- you 2 have fun bashing Trump now.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MarmeeMarch They aren't hard to find. They make up more than 60% of the population.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MarmeeMarch Now we dont make fun of how you play. We dont want to break your spirit. You have enough disappointments coming.
@whowasthatmaskedman Oh you mean another 4 years of DT ?
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MarmeeMarch Lets make a deal. You stop being ridiculous and I will stop rubbing your nose in just how screwed your country is.
@MarmeeMarch

It's unfortunate Trump gives us SO much ammunition to "bash" him for 🤷‍♀️
