Russia and China have both warned the USA not to involve itself in Venezuela. Why is that?

Nicholas Maduro has invited Russia to create a military base in Venezuela. I am not sure of China's interest.

The new interim president of Venezuela, Juan Guaido is following rules set forth in the Venezuelan constitution which demands a vote every six years. Juan Guaido is the leader of the opposition party in Venezuela. The US and Canada immediately recognized him.

"Maduro, 56, was sworn in for a second term on Thursday, having won a highly controversial election in May that was boycotted by the opposition and branded a fraud by the United States, European Union and Organization of American States.

The National Assembly's president Juan Guiado said the constitution gives parliament the right to assume transitional power after declaring Maduro a "usurper," but said it would need military backing and for people to take to the streets to demand change."

Maduro ia a former labour leader who won the special election for interim president after the president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, died in March of 2013. Maduro was sworn in for a second six year term during an election boycotted by the opposition.

Maduro, who controls the military, has demanded that all US citizens and embassy personnel leave the country immediately.

The USA has said that if any US citizen is harmed, or if the legal interim president is harmed, there will be extremely dire consequences.
