Transgender military ban back in effect. Our brave, brave soldiers apparently get too afraid to do their job if there are trans folk around.

Just curious ViciDraco-are you a veteran? If so, did you ever serve with openly gay men or openly gay women while you served? I'd sure like an answer.

@soar2newhighs I would also like to his his reply

@soar2newhighs I am not. I was born with genetic issues and would not have been accepted for service even had I wanted to. Which was honestly tempting to make a career out of, but that path was shut to me. But I know veterans who have that fall to both sides of the issue.

Also, the military are my employees as a tax payer. If they can learn to kill a man, they can learn to not be distracted by LGBT issues. Learning to murder for your country is far worse than learning to accept someone different from you. If you can do the former but not the latter, then you are the problem.
When you're in a combat situation, and it's you or them...it's not murder, it's staying alive, and if you must take their life, then YOU need to understand it is the nature of war. And you mock our soldiers in your opening remarks. Sad you didn't get in, but not having been in the shoes of those you mock and say "murder" people, you have NO DOG in the fight. So if you want to post-do so intelligently and with respect for the military. One more comment-YOU don't speak for those who may differ in their views on LGBT in the military.@ViciDraco

@soar2newhighs If a man breaks into your house and you shoot at him and miss and then he shoots back at you and kills you, is that murder? Most people would say it is.

It's been a long time since the military has been used for self defense. That crime is on the politicians sending us into foreign wars but it does not change the fact that we are the invaders.

Let's not call it murder then. Let's call it killing people. Same analogy applies, but without the criminal baggage.

@ViciDraco Murder = an illegal homicide.
I'm not a lawyer, but I'll say this. HE violated my house, my right to a safe home,by doing a B&E (crime) He brought a weapon, wound up killing me(Pre-meditated act of violence-breaking and entering unlawfully and shooting me fatally)
Military used for self defense? Are you out of your mind? There are men and women in combat situations where in that combat, they're trying to stay alive and if it means killing an enemy in combat, how would you expect them to react? If you deem that self defense, then so be it, but the enemy knows you'll return fire not to defend yourself, as to take them out as a threat.
You got an issue with the politicians-take it up with them. You got a problem and have determined we're invaders-again contact your political representatives. And wake up to reality-this is the world today-geopolitical and wars/conflicts go on all the time.
Next time you are accosted/assaulted but are armed, legally or not what would you do then?@ViciDraco
@soar2newhighs I didn’t serve either, but many men in my family did, including my grandfather in WWI and some uncles in WWII—in segregated troops where the same arguments were used—that “allowing negroes to serve alongside white men” would cause problems with morale. When it became necessary, they got over it, because as you state, war is about life and death. They also got over having to serve with women. Why don’t you think this would be a similar progression ? 🤔
Call it what you will. War is Hell, and to stay alive you often wind up ending the life of a combatant who would take yours in a heartbeat. And if you've been in combat, when you're being fired on and trying to stay alive, the "good causes" and all that other shit flies out the window-self preservation and the preservation of you fellow soldier is uppermost.

Your points are well taken. Though a veteran, I've been out a very long time, but I am not nor have I said that the military can't get over the inclusion of LGBT personnel, but I did say in an earlier post that there are those serving who have and are entitled to have their views on the environment in which they're in (military service), but remember, they all took an oath to follow the orders of their Superiors, and that's what they do. Will they all be happy? No

I'm not calling the military evil. I may have used harsh terms. My original point is that the military trains people to kill on command. Sometimes the enemy shoots first and sometimes we shoot first. I'm just saying if they can be trained for that, they can be trained to accept that their comrades are different from them.
In the military you are trained physically and mentally to be prepared to go into combat, which may well bring with it the taking of lives. Everyone will react differently to that. I think the views of the military on accepting LGBT personnel is far less a challenge, but they are entitled to their views on both, and there are those who have been and still are in our military, known as conscientious objectors because they don't want to end/take a human life.

Well, even when I was in we had "race relations" training. I've been out many years, but I believe our military has "Diversity" training now which I'm to guess would be the awareness training for our troops. How individuals react to that is a personal choice.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
@soar2newhighs diversity training used to be called blanket parties if I recall right
RC Factor.

@LvChris I have some family in the service that care very deeply, but when I ask why they just repeat conservative taking points. I also have friends that were live combat veterans in Bosnia who support everyone in the military so long as they can be trusted to have your back when things go to shit.

The Commanding General at our local army base is openly gay and she's also a very nice person I don't always agree with her points of view but eventually one of us gives in (normally me) I don't agree with lbgt flags or parades on base@ViciDraco
